“Anne reveled in the world of color about her.
"Oh, Marilla," she exclaimed one Saturday morning, coming dancing in with her arms full of gorgeous boughs, "I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers. It would be terrible if we just skipped from September to November, wouldn't it? Look at these maple branches. Don't they give you a thrill--several thrills?”
– L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

Chess Club Wins!

The George Matre Memorial Chess Club, which meets at the library, competed in a local tournament and won 1st place for Best Club in Central PA. Participants could sign up as part of a club or on their own, and played individually to compete. The top four scorers for each club were added up (winning a game was worth 1 point, drawing a game was 0.5 point, and losing a game was 0 points) and whichever club had the most points was the winner. There were also some individual prizes available in addition to the club prizes. The club had 7 players who participated as part of the club. There were two other clubs that had a similar number of players as well: Central PA Club and the Shippensburg University Chess Club. This was a wonderful opportunity for the club.

The club meets from 5:30pm - 7:45pm every Wednesday at the library. It is free to attend and there is no membership required. If you have a board and pieces, feel free to bring them (if not, that's perfectly fine as well). Check this club out if you have any interest in chess.

"As a botanist, Robin Wall Kimmerer has been trained to ask questions of nature with the tools of science. As a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, she embraces the notion that plants and animals are our oldest teachers. In Braiding Sweetgrass, Kimmerer brings these two lenses of knowledge together to take us on "a journey that is every bit as mythic as it is scientific, as sacred as it is historical, as clever as it is wise."-- Provided by publisher.
