Welcome to the October 2025 Library Newsletter!

We’ve got a treat-filled month ahead: haunted crafts, reading challenges, fresh puzzle packs, dinosaur adventures, and so much more.

The month begins with a little haunting of our own! Starting October 1st, everyone is invited to join us for Haunting the Stacks. Stop by anytime to decorate your very own ghost, give it a name, and help us turn the shelves into a friendly haunted haven.

Grown-ups can also look forward to some of their favorite programs returning this month, including Adult Craft Night and Silent Book Club, perfect for anyone looking for a cozy evening of creativity or quiet reading. Families and kids won’t be left out, with programs like STEAM Club, Early Reader’s Book Club, and Family Art bringing fun and learning to the library all month long. You can always see the full calendar of events on our website, but October is already shaping up to be full of both cozy and spooky fun.

October also ushers in two brand new Beanstack reading challenges. The first, the Haunted Doodle Hunt, is a playful way to celebrate spooky season with doodles, reading, and scavenger-style fun for all ages. Alongside the Haunted Doodle Hunt, we’re also launching Open Books: A Banned Book Challenge inspired by our library’s motto, ‘Open doors. Open books. Open minds.’ This challenge shines a light on books that have been banned or challenged, reminding us all of the importance of the freedom to read.

Of course, a new month also means new take-home packs! Adults can pick up the latest puzzle pack, a cozy collection of teasers and challenges that pairs perfectly with a hot mug of tea or cocoa. Kids will want to roar into the library to snag October’s Dinosaur of the Month pack, full of fun facts and activities about a brand-new prehistoric pal. (Be sure to pick up this month's dino Reading Dragons card once you finish too!)

As always, we’ll round out the newsletter with highlights from our e-resources and a sneak peek at new titles making their way onto our shelves. From seasonal spooky reads to comforting fall favorites, October’s collection promises something for everyone.
Check out our current calendar and more information about each program! You can download the calendar by clicking here!

The title reads "Your Library, Your Story". It has a graph paper background with more handwritten, vontage paper on either side of the title. On top of the paper on the left is a vintage camera, and to the right is a photo taken from the Coal Branch Archives of skaters embracing. The vibe of the title image is nostalgic and muted, looking like an old scrapbook.
We'd love to hear and share your experience about the Hinton Municipal Library with others in the community, including anything from a program you loved, a fun experience or memory you have, your favourite e-resource, or even a review of a good book! If you'd like to share your experience, contact us via email, or message us on social media!

"Book conservator Tory Van Dyne and a woman claiming to be Agatha Christie on holiday from the Great Beyond join forces to catch a killer in this spirited mystery from Amanda Chapman. Tory Van Dyne is the most down-to-earth member of a decidedly eccentric old-money New York family. For one thing, as book conservator at Manhattan's Mystery Guild Library, she actually has a job. Plus, she's left up-town society behind for a quiet life downtown. So she's not thrilled when she discovers a woman in the library's Christie Room who calmly introduces herself as Agatha Christie, politely requests a cocktail, and announces she's there to help solve a murder- that has not yet happened. But as soon as Tory determines that this is just a fairly nutty Christie fangirl, her socialite/actress cousin Nicola gets caught up in the suspicious death of her less-than-lovable talent agent. Nic, as always, looks to Tory for help. Tory, in turn, looks to Mrs. Christie. The woman, whoever or whatever she is, clearly knows her stuff when it comes to crime. Aided by a found family of unlikely sleuths-including a snarky librarian, an eleven-year-old computer whiz, and an NYPD detective with terrible taste in suits-Tory and the woman claiming to be her very much deceased literary idol begin to unravel the twists and turns of a murderer's devious mind. Because, in the immortal words of Miss Jane Marple, "murder is never simple.""-- Provided by publisher
