March at the Hinton Municipal Library
Welcome to the September 2025 Library Newsletter!

Dinosaurs (and a few dragons!) are taking over the library this month. We’re kicking things off with a Dinosaur Discovery Party full of snacks and activities, where a long-awaited mystery will finally be revealed—don’t miss it! September also marks the launch of our brand-new Reading Dragons program, where readers of all ages can collect mythical creature trading cards just by logging their reading time.

And the fun doesn’t stop there! Favorites from the summer like Dungeons & Dragons and Family Art are continuing into the fall, and many fan favourites are returning like Adult Craft Night and Baby Buzz Playdate, along with plenty of other exciting programs for all ages.

This September, step into a world of imagination, discovery, and adventure at the library!

January in Review
Storytime

Little ones learned all about the letter L, including loons, lions, and listening!
SRC Wrap Up Party
Thanks to everyone who joined us for the end-of-summer party! We had so much fun on the bouncy castle and trying out other fun activities!
Postcards from Around the World
Did you see this display in the library this summer? Students from around Hinton created postcards from a place they've been or place they'd most like to visit!
Early Reader's Book Club

We read books all about creepy crawlies, created bug crafts, and met some real life cockroaches!
The title reads "Your Library, Your Story". It has a graph paper background with more handwritten, vontage paper on either side of the title. On top of the paper on the left is a vintage camera, and to the right is a photo taken from the Coal Branch Archives of skaters embracing. The vibe of the title image is nostalgic and muted, looking like an old scrapbook.
Thank you for traveling around the world with us this summer! What was your favorite part of the Summer Reading Club this year? We’d also love to hear your ideas on how we can make future SRC adventures even better. Share your thoughts and help us plan for next year!

"I love sitting down with the family to read together. But I even take my book to the beach and on road trips. I get more time to read during the summer months than I do the rest of the year. I really love the summer reading program! Thank you for putting this on for the community!"
"I liked the crafts at the library! It made it fun to come in each week to new crafts. I like the activities that are sent home. So awesome!  I like all the books, they  are my favourite thing "
"This year's theme was so interesting. Really enjoyed learning about different places and promoting travel and reading about the world. Also really appreciated having so many craft kits put together with so much thought and creativity. In particular having adult craft kits is a nice way to include the big kids :)
"Coloring in the library with my parents and brother!"
"The STEM activities for the kids and adults were so fun! I loved the weekly craft, the post cards for the crafts weren’t as obvious so we missed that even though we did do every craft. I loved the adult craft! It made it so fun to participate in. Thanks again!"
"Reading nightly with my daughter. We actually read every night of the challenge, however couldn’t log one or two because of no service where we were. It was exiting to see how many minutes we read together and to see which books she gravitated too."
We'd love to hear and share your experience about the Hinton Municipal Library with others in the community, including anything from a program you loved, a fun experience or memory you have, your favourite e-resource, or even a review of a good book! If you'd like to share your experience, contact us via email, or message us on social media!

Flight : a novel
by Natalie Keller Reinert

"In Natalie Keller Reinert's beloved eight-book Eventing Series, we follow Jules and her friends through the joys and heartbreaks of the competitive eventing circuit, as they work their way into elite echelons-and into one another's lives and hearts. Utterly immersive and propulsive, this series is an unforgettable journey for anyone who has ever fallen in love with horses, or humans. Ten months after giving birth to her son, Jules is back on top. Or, she's ready to be. She and Pete have traveled to Maryland in prep for the Chesapeake Three-Day Event, one of America's toughest events, for the first time. A big win could be the perfect cap to her comeback season. Jules is where she belongs competition-wise, but there's one problem: she's in the wrong state. Because the fact is, Jules just hates Maryland. With Lindsay and Lacey holding down the fort back in Florida, Jules knows her farm is in safe hands, but that doesn't stop her from feeling homesick. And life on the road with a baby and his nanny is difficult and distracting. Jules has six weeks to prove that she can survive at the top of her sport, while being the wife and mother she wants to be. Can she put up with snooty Hunt Country eventers, an old-school trainer who isn't ready to give up her horses to Jules and Pete, and way too little sunshine? And what will Jules' future look like, now that horses are no longer the most important thing in her life?"
Well, actually : a novel
by Mazey Eddings

As always, I've done my best to handle these topics with nuance and compassion. Please take care of yourself while reading."

Before they were men / : Essays on a Gender Crisis
by Jacob Tobia

"The conversation about masculinity, patriarchy, and misogyny has never been so prominent or heated. Alarmed by a new generation of angry, broken young men, genderqueer writer Jacob Tobia set out to explore what was going on and came to a shocking conclusion: emotionally and spiritually-speaking, men and boys may be the ones suffering the most under the gender binary right now. Jacob should know. For their gender-defying adolescent heart, the nonconsensual process of being "made a man" was crushing. After spending a lifetime fleeing manhood and masculinity, Jacob dares to ask the question: what happens if we stop understanding men as categorical beneficiaries of patriarchal institutions and start understanding them for what they are - co-survivors of patriarchy itself? In a series of personal and devastating essays, Before They Were Men argues that we must rewire our entire framework of feminism. A much-needed nonbinary intervention into a two-sided discourse gone stale, Jacob boldly posits compassion and empathy as the paradigm-shifting forces that will lead men - and us all - to a brighter future. Urgent, surprising, and at times, hilarious, they cover topics like: The unspoken body image issues and dysmorphia confronting men and boys. The difficulty of challenging a world that glorifies war, aggression, and the violence of men. The case for rethinking, and ultimately retiring, counterproductive terms like "Toxic Masculinity" and "Male Privilege.""-- Provided by publisher
