Home of Meredith Johnson 1838 - 1923 & his wife Margaret (Neill) Johnson - located in part of Bigger Township that was taken for the Jefferson Proving Ground. Not far from what is now Bethel Cemetery.
We were very fortunate here at the Jennings County Public Library to have donated to us copies of pictures on CD from the Meredith & Margaret Johnson Family Album - Thanks to Edith Johnson & Abraham Lincoln - descendants of the this family, scanned by Matt Hutchins and shared by Barbara Cummings.
Merideth & Margaret Johnson were married April 15, 1860. Margaret was a "Birthright Quaker" the home farm pictured above was just down the road from the farm of Joshua V & Elizabeth (Griffith) Milhous after whom Jessamyn West crafted the main characters in her book "The Friendly Persuasion".
The picture below is of Margaret (Neill) Johnson, wife of Meredith Johnson. There are around 100 pictures in this collection many are tintypes.
