Summer is in full swing and so are summer programs for children and teens. Concert, community hikes, BINGO, art events, squid dissection and much more await you at your local library. The Summer Reading Program is a fantastic way to enhance your summer experience with literacy, art, music, and countless hands-on programs
 
Registration is open now and programs run through the end of August. A complete calendar of events can be found on the

Special events for July
Literary Color Run, Jenks Family Concert, Mobius Science Center, Shark Week, Dr. Picklestein, and Art in the Wild

What happens when you combine a few of our favorite books and colored chalk?
A Literary Color Run for the whole family. 
 
Love puzzles? Mind-blowing experiments and the unexpected? Meet Dr. Picklestein,  the electrifying alter-ego of Boise State University's Henry Chalier, PhD. 
 
Don't miss Squid Dissection with Mobius Science Center! Discover how these marine creatures navigate the oceans and what makes them different from the creatures who live above the waves. Space is limited. **REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED**

Celebrate Shark Week, July 6-12. Stop by the library any time during open hours to complete fun activities, check out cool shark books, or challenge you favorite youth program specialist to shark trivia. Log your activities in Beanstack for a chance to win a special Shark Week prize.

Secret Garden Party

Join us in a joyous celebration of the cherished tale by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Explore the science of what makes a garden flourish. Create art inspired by The Secret Garden and bring home something to enhance or start your own garden.

Bubble Palooza 

Bring a blanket, picnic, and sunscreen, and join us for a morning of music, art, books, and bubbles! This program is in partnership with Mountain States Early Head Start.

Wooden Boat Races

Meet us at Rathdrum City Park for the 4th Annual Wooden Boat Races! Make your won boat with materials provided or bring some of your own. Make sure to bring a hat and water bottle to beat the heat.

Stamps Around the World

Did you  know on May 1, 1840, the Penny Black, the first adhesive postage stamp, was issued in the United Kingdom? 
Pick up your Postage Stamp booklet and stop by the library each week during open hours to complete activities and challenges related to stamps from around the world. 
Collect new postage stamps each week to add to your collection. Log into Beanstack to track
your progress.
 
 
Color Play

Learning about colors helps young children sort, organize, categorize, and compare objects. And color play is also really fun! top by the library to engage with hands-on color activities and watch your child bloom.

Help celebrate summer by decorating the library's walkaways with bright colors and positive messages. Sidewalk chalk and cool treats
will be provided.

Programs for young learners, Birth-4

Young learners will explore the world around them this summer through water science projects at Splashpad STEAM.
 
Squish and mush your way to messy sensory playtime with edible goo and rainbow spaghetti. Come dressed for mess at Totally Untidy Tots.
 
Summer Storytime has stories, games, and hands-on activities for children and their caregivers. Have a baby that is not quite ready for storytime? Join us at Book Babies, a program designed for our youngest library users (birth-2).

Nature exploration with Mobius Science Center
Pollinators and Flower Dissection
How do flowers make seeds? Why are bees so important for growing fruits and vegetables? Explore the dynamic relationship between flowers and pollinators. Kids will dissect a flower, create art with the flower, and make a flower model. 
 
Squid Dissection 
Dissecting a squid can be an inky business! Discover how these marine creatures navigate the oceans and what makes them different from the creatures who live above the waves. Kids will dissect and identify the anatomy of a squid and paint with squid ink.
 
Space is limited and registration is required for both events.
For ages 5-10.

Step back in time for a glimpse of life in the 1870's with Little House on the Prairie, and celebrate the 80th anniversary of Stuart Little this summer at Wild Readers. Activities, games, snacks, and more

Visit the Farragut Visitor's Center to discover the beauty of art in nature. Each week we will explore artistic mediums, and create unique nature-inspired projects. Come dressed for a mess.
