We will be closed on Thursday, October 25, for training. No library materials are due that day.

What will you need in 2030?
Imagine it is ten years from now. What will you be doing? While it is hard to predict the future, here are some things you can count on: your libraries will be here; printed books will be on the shelves; and there will be useful, everyday technology that hasn’t yet been invented. As the Community Library Network plans for the next ten years, we want to know what services, resources, and programs you think you will need in 2030. Please take a few minutes and fill out our survey.

Writers! Get Your Mojo On!
The Community Library Network is partnering with the organizers of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) to inspire new and seasoned authors of all ages to explore the power of their imaginations. The goal of the annual event is for each person to complete a 50,000-word novel during the month of November. To get the writing frenzy going, Hayden Library will host an introduction to NaNoWriMo, Tuesday, October 2, 6 p.m. On Saturday, October 6, 1 p.m., Post Falls Library will host award-winning author Carrie Stuart Parks who will fill participants in on how to overcome writing obstacles and get to the 50,000-word finish line. Athol’s kickoff party is Saturday, October 20, 1 p.m., with a writing preparation meeting on Wednesday, October 24, 6:30 p.m. The regional kick off event for the November writing month takes place at Post Falls Library, October 27, 1 p.m. Folks will learn about how the process works and get advice on staying motivated from writers who have experienced the agony and joy of being part of the experience. The Hayden, Post Falls, Spirit Lake and Athol libraries are hosting writing programs and weekly write-in sessions in November, serving refreshments to inspire writers to keep working toward completion. Check CommunityLibrary.Net/Adults or CommunityLibrary.Net/Teens, for more information.

Classical Guitar Performance Coming to Hayden Library
Carnegie Hall has nothing on Hayden Library. Peter Fletcher, critically acclaimed American classical guitarist, performed a solo recital at Carnegie Hall last year, and he will be appearing at the Hayden Library, Tuesday, October 30, 6 p.m. Sponsored by the Friends of the Community Library Network, the concert is free and no reservations are needed. His performance, Music of Four Centuries, runs the gamut from the Renaissance Period through the 20th Century. The program begins with two Renaissance works, and then flows into the 17th and 18th century with Bach and the Italian composer Pagannini. Selections will also be performed from British composer William Walton and Spanish composer Francisco Tarrega, as well as a solo version of Vivaldi’s Concerto in D Major. The concert will culminate with Isaac Albeniz’s Rumores de la Caleta, one of the most exciting Spanish works in the classical guitar repertoire. Calling All Heavy Lifters!
It only happens twice a year, but it takes months of planning to get the Friends of the Community Library Network’s book sale together. One of the biggest challenges for our Friends group is moving boxes to and from the book sale room. If you or someone you know has the muscles to help, please send them our way. Your ability to lift 20 to 25 pounds would be appreciated. The book sale is scheduled at the Hayden Library Friday, November 2, and Saturday, November 3. Set-up takes place Friday morning to prepare for the 4 p.m. opening, and tear down happens when the book sale ends, Saturday, 2 p.m. Your efforts will help support an organization that donates all its proceeds back to the library. As of August 2018, the Friends have contributed $12,870 toward summer reading and other library programs. To volunteer, contact Leslie Wilde, 208-762-3261. Members looking to download a new book will find the process much easier through Libby. Overdrive, the library’s e-book and audio book vendor, created the app for Android, iOS, and Windows 10 devices. After downloading the app, browse the collection and borrow a title and, when prompted, enter your library card to complete the loan. Find the app on the eLibrary page, CommunityLibrary.Net/eLibrary.
