Strong Women of Early Idaho Tuesday, October 1st, 6:00 pm Idaho Songster Gary Eller presents the songs and stories of historical women, including local mine owner May Arkwright Hutton, Banjo Nell, and horse rancher Kitty Wilkins. He’ll comment about these and other heroines with his unique and humorous perspective.

North Idaho Mushroom Club Wednesday, October 2nd, 6:00 pm For October, we’ll feature a panel of successful mushroom hunters who will share tips to finding mushrooms and answer your questions. As usual, we will have a table of mushroom finds to examine and identify. Meets the first Wednesday of each month.

Burning Harry Potter Thursday, October 3rd, 6:00 pm What is fantasy literature about and why is it a major misreading to burn copies of Harry Potter? Join Brian Attebery, Idaho Humanities Council presenter, as he looks at the way fantasy draws on traditions of myth and magic to create modern metaphors. Attebery has received many honors for his work on science fiction, fantasy, and children’s literature, including the Science Fiction Research Association’s Pilgrim Award for lifetime achievement in scholarship in science fiction and fantasy and the Idaho Humanities Council’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Humanities.

Higher Education Fair Saturday, October 5, 11:00 am to 3:00 pm High school, home school, and adult learners are all welcome for a series of breakout sessions including Financial Well-Being for Students (led by STCU), What Should I Consider When Choosing a College?, and Things I Wish I Was Told Before I Started College. Representatives from the Community Colleges of Spokane, Idaho State University, Lewis-Clark State College, North Idaho College, and the University of Idaho will be on hand to answer your questions. Lunch is provided. Free. No registration required. Painting with Monique, October 7, Part 1 Monday, October 7, 2:00 pm Local artist Monique Carran’s philosophy is: Once you know how to mix colors, you can paint anything. This three-part series will cover color theory, an introduction to drawing, and collage painting. Train your eye to see the beautiful colors around you, learn how to draw objects in pencil, and combine acrylic paint with memorabilia or natural objects to create a unique masterpiece. Free. Teen Summer Writing Program "A Universe of Stories" Book Launch Wednesday, October 16, 6:00 pm Come and help our young authors celebrate! The Community Library Network at Post Falls will be holding a book launch for the publication of our Teen Summer Writing Program’s, A Universe of Stories. Listen to our guest author, E.G. Moore, give advice to young authors, snag a copy of the book, learn about the program, and maybe get some autographs from our hard-working teen writers. This is a family-friendly event so everyone is encouraged to come show their support for our community’s teen writers.

River City Garden Club Wednesday, October 16, 6:00 pm What in the world is urban forestry, and how does it affect you? Back by popular demand, we’ll feature Preston Hill, a qualified Tree Risk Assessor and ISA Board Certified Master Arborist. For the past five years, Preston has managed our public trees as the City of Post Falls’ Urban Forester. Attendees will learn the broad scope of how and why urban forestry improves the lives of Post Falls residents and about codes and regulations pertaining to city street trees. Come learn the horticultural side of what goes on behind the scenes of city planning!

Bluegrass Jam Tuesday, October 22, 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm The Inland Northwest Bluegrass Music Association is happy to announce a bluegrass, folk, and country music jam at the Post Falls Library. Computer Class Courses Mondays 2 - 3 pm Are you struggling with learning how computers work? Is your job heavily dependent on computers? Come and learn the ins and outs of how computers work.
This course is very in depth and is structured similarly to a college course. There is no homework but lots of notes and slides to read. The goal is to have you leave with a greater understanding of computer use and the tech jargon that goes with it. - October 7: Microsoft Office
