Branch News The Summer Reading Program is continuing strong, with well over 550 registrants and 106 teen volunteers! 15 lucky winners received book sets for our mid-summer prize drawing, and there are many baskets of book sets and book-related goodies left for our big end-of-summer prize drawing after the program ends on August 9th. Every hour read earns participants a raffle ticket, so keep reading to earn more chances to win some awesome prizes. Be sure to check in before the 9th! In the beginning of August, we will continue to “Color Our World” with more fun programs: coloring a stuffed heart, painting a canvas with a summery scene, and tie-dying t-shirts. After Summer Reading ends, we will also be making t-shirt bags, learning basic kitchen skills with breakfast sundaes, and learning the history behind things like thaumatropes and maps. Kids MusicRound will be doing a demo class on August 12th, with a fun music session for toddlers that teaches topics like rhythm in a fun, very hands-on way. Local high schoolers are volunteering their time to run programs on Java, public speaking, chess, AI Literacy, STEM fun, anatomy (“Anatomy Adventures!”), cookie-decorating, and math and reading. We also have our regular story times and baby times continuing through the summer – including a new baby time session on Mondays at 10am for the 0-12 month-olds. Even if you can’t make a scheduled program, we always have a weekly scavenger hunt and coloring sheets/crafts available any time (plus air conditioning!).
