The Richards Memorial Library is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year. The cornerstone was laid in 1894 in a ceremony rich with Masonic symbolism. This month, on Saturday, June 15th, there will be a low-key observation of the occasion at 1:15. Summer hours also begin on that day and the library will close at 1:00 pm. The brief re-dedication will take place right after the library closes. Everyone is welcome; the Strawberry Festival will be going at the Veterans' park that day as well.

For June the library will be collecting items for the North Attleboro Animals Shelter. You can bring all the donations to the Library. Here's what we would like to collect: - Canned cat food (pate) and dry cat food
- Canned dog food (Pedigree pate is their favorite!) and grain-free dry dog food.
- Grain-free dog treats and chews (no bullysticks or rawhides)
- Blankets, towels and linens
- 39-gallon trash bags

June is a quiet month in the Children's Department, UNTIL Summer Reading blasts off at the end of the month! Registration for Summer Reading begins Monday, June 24th. This year Stephen Brenner will be back on Tuesday, June 25, at 10:30 am with his variety and magic show. Everyone who saw him last year had a great time. Wednesday, June 26 at 10 am, there will be a Rocket Decorating program for kids 7 years old and older. We will display the rockets created all summer here at the library. The theme is "A Universe of Stories." Stories from Earth and beyond will be featured, as we remember the first walk on the moon, July 20, 1969, 50 years ago! We have planned an exciting summer full of exploration, music, drama, crafting, critter visits, visiting performers and reading challenges and prizes. We are grateful to the Friends, as always, who have been so generous in providing the funding for our reading incentives and outside programming. Make sure to take advantage of YOUR very cool library this summer!
