October is the month of Third Grade Tours at the library. The goal of the tours is to introduce every third grader to the library. Starting on October 10 through October 22 different schools in town will send its third graders to the library to be given a tour by Miss Eunice, the children’s librarian. We ask that, if your child doesn’t have a library card, you come in and sign your child up for one before his or her tour date. This will make your child’s visit more enjoyable because they will be able to check out a book on their own. Also, the SAILS Network has started a program that renews most materials checked out to patrons automatically (unless they are not eligible, i.e., they’re on hold for someone else or they are interlibrary loans). One down side to this is that there will be fewer overdue charges and that will have a direct impact on Lenore’s Pantry. The library sends about 1,000 full grocery bags to the Pantry every year and provides a lot of variety to its stock. If you don’t have fines and you want to bring in food anyway, we will remain a collection point for the Pantry. Thank you.

If you open this email right away, you will know about the Book Sale at 49 Whiting Street this weekend. Thursday, Friends' Night: 6 pm to 8 pm; Friday, 2 pm to 8 pm; and Saturday, 9 am to 2 pm. Thank you to all the people who worked with the sorting of the books throughout the summer and who helped move the books and set up for the sale. Thank you also to the many people who donated a bumper crop of books, dvds, cds and more this year and to the people who donated the raffle items. We are holding off accepting any more donations until we have space on our library sale shelves. Both Attleboro and Plainville do have upcoming book sales.

October in the Children's Room means: THIRD GRADE TOURS. All the third graders in NA public schools and St. Mary's/Sacred Heart School visit the library for a tour to become familiar with what the library has to offer. If you have a third grader, or know one, please tell him/her to make sure to bring his/her own library card on the day their class is scheduled to come to the library so they can borrow a book. It only takes a few minutes to get a card, but it must be done before the day of the tour. The tours are scheduled for 10/10,10/11, 10/12, 10/15 - 10/19, and 10/22. We host two tours each day between 9:15 am through 11:30 am. There will be no story times on tour days. October also means we will have a not-at-all-scary Halloween party on Tuesday, October 30, at 10 am, for children between one to six years old, with stories, songs and special treats.
