Thriller. Jamie DeBroux is not pleased to be heading to work on a Saturday morning, but his day is only going to get worse: his boss is planning on terminating all of the employees in the office. Literally. Apparently, Jamie's the only one who didn't know that the company was a cover for a covert intelligence agency, but that ignorance isn't going to save him from certain death. Within minutes, at least one man is dead (forget the Kool-aid--don't drink the office OJ!) and the rest of the employees scatter in efforts to save their skins--too bad the elevators and stairs are booby-trapped. The break-neck action doesn't let up, so when you open this book, make sure you don't have to be anywhere for awhile.

Romantic Suspense. Five months after her sister Danielle's disappearance, Detective Rebecca Montgomery has pushed her fellow officers too far. Her failure to let them do their jobs without interference gets her transferred onto a homicide case involving the discovery of the remains of a woman who's been missing for nearly seven years. With a believably desperate Becca at the forefront of this fast-paced story, and a complicated love interest in the form of a not-so-innocent bystander, Jordan Dane's debut is a good choice for fans of Lisa Gardner.

Suspense Fiction. The similarities between Lisa Gardner's books and Eileen Dreyer's are multiple--both feature complex heroines, intriguing plot twists, forensic details, and a break-neck pace. In With a Vengeance, overachieving emergency room nurse and SWAT medic Maggie O'Brien uncovers evidence of a number of unexplained deaths taking place in her hospital. When administrators are unwilling to listen, she puts her own life in danger by turning investigator to clear her name and get to the bottom of the mysterious deaths.

Medical Thriller. Two years ago, Dr. Catherine Cordell killed her attacker, a serial killer known as "the Surgeon" for his tendency to remove his victim's wombs before killing them. Now in Boston, Catherine hasn't really recovered from her ordeal, but in her job as trauma surgeon she's again seeing wombless victims. Who is behind these new attacks? This 1st of a series featuring homicide detective Jane Rizzoli will appeal to Gardner fans looking for sympathetic characters, medical and investigative details, multiple plots, and a fast pace.

Suspense Fiction. With a fast-paced plot and the appealing ex-narcotics detective Elena Estes (currently training horses) at its center, The Alibi Man is a good choice for fans waiting for Lisa Gardner's latest. In her second appearance (after Dark Horse), Elena is still recovering from a drug bust that went bad when she finds the body of a coworker. With the help of a former lover, she launches an investigation that leads to both the Russian mob and a privileged cadre of Palm Beach bad boys with powerful reasons to protect each other. Booklist calls The Alibi Man "superbly taut."

Historical Thriller. Things aren't looking too good for Berliners in 1922--inflation is out of control, anti-Semitism is rampant, Hitler and his party are gaining momentum, and there is a murderer loose in the city. But Prince Nick Potrovskov, a (possibly fake) Russian aristocrat and powerful cabaret owner, is focused only on an asylum inmate named Anna, whom he is convinced (or at least claims) is Princess Anastasia, daughter of the slain Czar Nicholas II. He installs his Jewish assistant, the well-educated, scarred Esther, in an apartment with Anna, but soon people near Anna begin to die... "Engrossing," says Publishers Weekly.

Suspense Fiction. Beach bum Thorn, having left the Florida Keys for a visit to Miami, finds himself and his loved ones deep in trouble when he gets involved in a killing spree provoked by a 40-year-old photograph. Murderous goons are hunting down the existing prints--and his girlfriend's father, the man Thorn has come to Miami to care for, owns one of those prints. What's so dangerous about a picture taken the night Cassius Clay beat Sonny Liston in 1964? Well, nothing obvious, but someone in that picture has something to hide. And Thorn, in his 9th appearance, will do what he must in order to protect his loved ones.

Police Thriller. In this debut, which is based on real events, highly decorated Chicago cop Patti Black is hiding the truth--and avoiding the memories--of her childhood as a horrifically abused foster child in Calumet City. But Patti's connections to several seemingly unrelated crimes (including the death of a woman who was buried alive and an attempt on the mayor's life) threaten to bring that past to light. With plenty of action (read the first chapter to get a taste of it) and lots of violence, Calumet City is "dark and dizzying, bloody and bewildering, and highly original" (Booklist).

Crime Thriller. After eight years in prison, newly minted Humane Society officer Lorenzo Brown is back in the Washington, D.C., neighborhood of his youth, determined to stay straight despite the temptations that surround him. His probation officer, Rachel Lopez, spends most of her nights in bars, picking up inappropriate men. Both of them are doing what they can to survive when a mis-step over gang boundaries touches off a turf war that affects them both--and leaves Lorenzo with a choice between revenge and the hope of a new life. His choices, and author George Pelecanos' descriptions of a neighborhood in jeopardy, make for a "lean, stirring, knife-edged novel" (The New York Times).
