Psychological Suspense. This new novel by Jeffery Deaver doesn't star series characters Kathryn Dance or Lincoln Rhyme, but Deaver fans will likely be tantalized by what could be a series opener starring a government agent who protects individuals targeted for murder or kidnapping. Though it lacks the roller-coaster-like plot twists that Deaver specializes in, the strong characterization, compelling story, and ingenious methods employed by hero and villain alike make for a tale sure to keep you on the "edge" of your seat.

Thriller. Born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, journalist Liam Mulligan takes it personally when a series of fires--apparently the work of arsonists--destroys buildings in his old neighborhood of Mount Hope, in some cases killing friends and neighbors. But his investigation leads to threats, which escalate to a beating, an arrest, troubles at work, and even being placed on a hit list. This debut--which Booklist calls "one of the best of the year"--boasts a strong mean-streets setting, entertaining characters, a quickly moving plot, and more than a tinge of noir.
The Identity Man - by Andrew Klavan
Publisher: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt

ISBN-13: 9780547243283
ISBN-10: 0547243286
Thriller. Framed for a crime he didn't actually commit (though there are plenty that he has), John Shannon is running from the death penalty when he receives the chance of a lifetime--a completely new start (including a new face) in a different city. But his benefactor is anonymous, and Shannon is sent to a city dealing with, among other problems, lawlessness in the aftermath of a Hurricane Katrina-like disaster. When things go wrong, they go very badly wrong, and Shannon finds himself in deeper trouble than he's ever seen before. With slowly rising tension and strong writing, this dark tale feels "almost mythic" (Publishers Weekly).

Legal Thriller. D'marco Davis has beaten up his girlfriend, Laprea Johnson, one time too many, but when she lies on the stand to save him, the case is dismissed. Not long after, her body is found near his home. Newbie assistant U.S. attorney Anna Curtis, who prosecuted the domestic abuse case, joins forces with the D.C. homicide chief to prosecute D'marco once more, but the case causes Anna's personal and professional lives to collide, thanks to D'marco's public defender. This debut novel will appeal to fans of Linda Fairstein's Alexandra Cooper novels as well as to those interested in the ethical challenges inherent in pursuing justice.
Focus on: Corporate Wrongdoing

Spy Fiction. Ambitious young Alec Milius is thrilled when an encounter with British intelligence agency MI6 ends with a stimulating new job with an oil company--and the added bonus of introducing him to the dark world of industrial espionage. Soon, however, he is trapped in a web of deception, caught between MI6 and the CIA--and he discovers that information can come at the cost of human life. John le Carré and Robert Ludlum fans should appreciate this debut, which is loosely based on the author's real-life intelligence recruitment experience and which was followed by The Spanish Game in 2008.
Vanished - by Joseph Finder

Corporate Thriller. After an assault leaves his estranged brother nowhere to be found and his sister-in-law in the hospital, corporate espionage investigator (and former Special Forces soldier) Nick Heller begins looking into the attack--and uncovers the sorts of secrets that a very powerful, very secretive corporation would go to great lengths to keep hidden. With all the action and suspense of a thriller, plus enough corporate wrongdoing to chill your blood, this 1st installment in a new series is "outstanding" (Library Journal). Look out for the 2nd, Buried Secrets, to be published sometime next year.
Money to Burn: A Novel of Suspense - by James Grippando

Corporate Thriller. Financial whiz-kid Michael Cantella was at the top of his game when, on their honeymoon, his wife disappeared. Devastated, Michael learns to cope with his loss, eventually marrying another woman. Seven years later, however, he checks his usually flush bank accounts to find that his very substantial nest egg has vanished. Then, his colleagues blame him for the sub-prime mortgage deals that bring their firm to near-collapse, and he's framed for murder--but who's behind the effort to ruin his life? The non-stop pace of this timely corporate thriller may very well have you calling in sick at your own (hopefully less dramatic) job.

Legal Thriller. Loose lips sink ships--and sometimes the careers of promising corporate attorneys. In this debut, Will Connelly has just made partner, but celebratory drinks end with him boasting to a beautiful stranger about the major merger he's working on. Russian thugs soon show up to beat more information out of him, and since he can't go to the cops (without admitting to breaking several SEC regulations), Will's on his own--and his attempts to right his wrongs make him the target of an insider-trading investigation, a suspect in a murder, and a pawn in a deadly game involving the Russian mafia and a terrorist plot.
