What's Happening at the Library |
|
***NOTICE*** The library will be closing at 5pm on Wed. Nov. 22, closed on Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24 Happy Thanksgiving! Message from our Children’s Librarian: November is Picture Book Month! This month-long celebration focuses on the importance of reading, writing and literature. Try a variety of authors and illustrators. Or look up a New Jersey author or illustrator. Try Brian Selznick (East Rutherford), Drew Sheneman (Bedminster), Airlie Anderson (Belle Mead), or Wende & Harry Devlin (married Scotch Plains Authors).
How about a Wordless Picture book? Wordless books (those without the printed word) lead to more conversations and a richer vocabulary. Wordless books build the confidence in early readers and of reluctant readers as well. Plus, these types of books are accessible to children and families who speak a variety of languages. Check out “Chalk” by Bill Thomson, “Journey” by Aaron Becker, “Robot Dreams” by Sara Vernon or “Draw!” by Raul Colon. Happy Reading! Teen Community Service Opportunities are available at our library. Display your collection with us. Do you have a special talent? Do you do origami? Can you help teach kids how to make paper airplanes or friendship bracelets? Do you speak another language? Facilitate a short bilingual Story Time for our youngsters.
Reach out to the Children's Librarian at mprovini@dillonlibrary.org for more details about our Teen Community Service Opportunities. Maria Provini Children's Librarian
