From the Director's Desk
I‘d like to introduce you to Jay Oliver, the library’s new Technology Specialist! Jay, a New Jersey native, recently returned from the Bay Area where he worked as the Teen and Adult Services Librarian at the Danville Library. Prior to that, he worked as a librarian for the Mercer County Library System. I’m happy he decided to return to NJ and accept the position here.
Jay has five years of technical librarian experience. His concentration in graduate school was “Web Librarian” so he has a good grasp of using computers and other electronic devices. Monday, September 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. he will host Bytes and Bites: Tech Q & A. This is your chance to come meet Jay, have your technology questions answered, and enjoy a tasty “bite” while you’re here. Don’t forget to bring your laptop, tablet, or smartphone if you have questions about them.
Jays come from a family of librarians; two sisters and a brother in-law are librarians. What drew Jay to the field was the opportunity to use technology to better the lives of people. He enjoys helping others with their technology needs. As Jay says himself, “I definitely picked the right field!”
Jay is replacing Joanne Dera who left the library last May for a full time Reference & Research Librarian position at NJIT.
