The Twin Falls Public Library is proud to announce a visit with award-winning author Maggie Tokuda-Hall! Maggie will be doing a presentation for elementary-age kids at the Library on Saturday, October 7 at 10am. Her presentation will focus on her picture book Love in the Library, which is based on her grandparents' experience in the Minidoka internment camp. Love in the Library is the moving story of how Maggie’s grandparents, Tama and George, met and fell in love while they were in the Minidoka internment camp. It has been named a Best Picture Book of 2022 by Book Page, School Library Journal, Booklist, and Publisher’s Weekly. During her presentation, Maggie will talk about the historical context for the book and end with a Q&A. Her visit was made possible with help from the Twin Falls Public Library Foundation.

The Youth Services Department and the Outreach Department have once again partnered with two Twin Falls elementary schools to participate in the Idaho Commission for Libraries' My First Books program! Starting in October, we'll visit kindergarten classes at I.B. Perrine Elementary and Oregon Trail Elementary. During each visit, librarians read a selected book to each class, and students receive a copy of that book to take home. This helps build students' home book collections, promotes literacy, and builds connections between children and public librarians. We're thrilled to participate in this fun, exciting program, and we love being recognized by My First Books students all over Twin Falls!
