If you visit The Library in the next few weeks you will notice some big changes happening outside the Computer Lab. Thanks to a very generous gift from the Friends of the East Brunswick Library, The Library is building three group study rooms for the enjoyment of our residents. These rooms will allow small groups to work together on projects and activities in a space that is conducive to collaboration. We will be celebrating this fabulous addition to library services with a ribbon cutting ceremony in January, so be sure to stop by and see our progress!
See you at The Library!

Library Director
The East Brunswick Pubic Library Makerspace committee is seeking input on how we can use Makerspace programs in East Brunswick and is asking residents to fill out a survey to share ideas on how we can be creative, collaborate, learn and experiment. Makerspaces are open community spaces where members with common interests (e.g., engineering, computer programming, inventing, graphic design, crafting, etc.) gather to share resources, knowledge, and creativity, build new devices, or just innovate. Generally, Makerspaces are designed to meet the following needs:
• Provide access to a wide variety of tools and technology;
• Facilitate group interaction, knowledge, and resource sharing;
• Supply access to physical space for individual project development;
• Provide an open environment for expression of creativity and innovation;
• Access to equipment for prototyping project ideas for hobbyist or entrepreneurs.
Simply, a Makerspace is a place where creativity comes together, is fostered and encouraged. The Library wants to create a flexible, collaborative space or place that provides a setting for our residents to work on projects, teach and learn from each other, and meet and connect with other residents and library staff. We include in our vision the encouragement of a “maker culture” of creativity, inquiry, experimentation, peer-to-peer learning and instructor led workshops. Before we launch any specific area of the maker culture we would like to hear from you!
Please share your ideas about what you’d like from a flexible, collaborative space by taking our survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ebplmakerspace

Using these two-dimensional surrogates as a connecting thread, Flat Daddy follows four such families over the course of a year to explore the lasting impact of the war on those left behind.

This month’s exhibits include Kevan Lunney’s fiber art and
Nancy Scott’s collage art. Both artists produce works that are characterized,
literally and figuratively, by texture and depth with a strong tactile
presence. The exhibits are sponsored by the East Brunswick Arts Commission.
On Display: Fiber Arts of Kevan Lunney
Kevan Lunney is an internationally-exhibited fine artist, curator and teacher whose medium is fabric, paint and thread. One of her favorite projects was facilitating the community quilt project that hangs permanently in The Library’s Youth Services area. Lunney's newest work reflects a painterly approach with raw edges and details drawn with stitches which resemble text.
Recent shows include SOFA 2013 (Sculptural Objects & Functional Art Fair), Chicago; Scythia Mini Textile Show 2013, Kherson, Ukraine; Art Quilt Elements 2012; Quilt National 2011; Vision Gallery, San Diego; Quilt Expo, Sur Anse, France; Sanitas Center, Botswana, Africa; Festival of Quilts, Birmingham, England; and Pushkin Library, St. Petersburg, Russia. Learn more at www.KevanArt.com.
On Exhibit: The Collage Art of Nancy Scott
Artist and poet Nancy Scott is intrigued with telling a visual story by “shaping images…with paper, fabric, paint, ink and found objects.” In both her writing and her art she likes to use “memory and history, people and place” as inspiration.
Recent juried shows include exhibits sponsored by the South Brunswick Arts Commission, the Perkins Center for the Arts in Moorestown, the West Windsor Arts Council, the City Museum in Trenton and the Artists of Yardley, as well as the Artsbridge Annual Juried Show in New Hope, PA.
CALL FOR EXHIBITORS:
The Library is creating a file of potential exhibits and displays. The goal is to present an eclectic sampling of local artists (in all media) and intriguing exhibits of broad interest. If you have artwork, a collection or other display items you’d like to propose for future exhibits, please email jwork@ebpl.org requesting exhibit proposal information. All exhibits are for one calendar month.
