Borrow books to use in your classroom, with no fines! Did you know you can check out any of the library's resources with extended due dates and no fines? The McHenry Public Library has thousands of books and DVDs to supplement your classroom and school resources! If you are planning a special assignment, we would be happy to discuss available resources and possibilities to ensure student access to materials. Checking out materials via our Classroom Checkout Program allows you to have materials for extended times and avoid overdue fines. Contact us with the topic, grade, number of students, as well as your contact info, and Youth Services staff will gather appropriate resources and have them available for pick-up at the library or delivered, if you are in D15. Teachers are responsible for lost or damaged items. Teachers may also check out materials for their own use by registering their Illinois library card at the Checkout Desk, even if the card is issued by another library. If interested, call us at 815-385-0036, email us, or contact us through our online form, and select "Books for Classrooms" from the drop-down subject menu.

The pressure is on for excellent STEM activities, and the library has just the thing to help! Science Online from Facts on File presents a broad range of scientific disciplines through extensive essays, videos, diagrams, definitions, biographies, and experiments, with easy searching and browsing options. Take advantage of Science Online's many resources for experiments. Find experiments to do in the classroom, watch videos of experiments that are too costly or dangerous for students to do themselves. To support the science and math topics you are already covering, you can find examples of different kinds of tables and graphs that show data in meaningful ways. A Science Dictionary gives definitions of tough science terms, and a reliable unit conversion calculator is available for switching between units accurately. Use the "Topic Centers" or the "eLearning Modules" to take advantage of groups of resources, including videos, diagrams, and timelines, centered on important categories. The "eLearning Modules" contain ready-to-use discussion questions and quizzes for many major topics. It's a great place to brainstorm for activities! Recent discoveries and developments in science and math are highlighted in the "Science in the News" sidebar. These articles are well-researched, often based directly on the scientific reports themselves, and include discussion questions to use with students about the topics presented in the article. We highly recommend this database for all your science needs! Discover Science Online from Facts on File by visiting our website at www.mchenrylibrary.org or feel free to contact your school librarian for more details on how to access this database in your classroom. We appreciate your feedback on our featured databases and learning how this database was used in your classroom. |
