Summer Reading is coming back on Beanstack! As you know, the summer learning gap is a real challenge that our students face. The Summer Reading Program (SRP) is a great way to keep kids engaged in reading throughout the summer, with some fun prizes along the way, including a free book when they finish! This year's theme is Adventure Begins At Your Library. Embark on the adventure of a lifetime through the pages of a book! In addition to SRP, we have great programs for children of all ages! We are working on a promotional video that will be uploaded to our YouTube channel. Make sure to keep an eye out for it! Adventure begins at MPLD!

Writing and reading go hand in hand. By writing, it helps kids learn the power of the spoken language. According to Bellingham Public Library, writing: - Helps build dexterity in children's fingers in order to be able to scribble, draw, and eventually write letters.
- Helps with hand-eyed coordination.
- Helps children become aware that print has meaning.
Ways to help children improve their writing skills include: - Drawing shapes and pictures.
- Tracing in the sand or dirt with either a stick or your fingers.
- Encouraging children to write their names on their drawings or label the parts of what they drew.
