This Spring, the Burlingame Community reads They Called Us Enemy by George Takei, along with participating libraries in California, Oregon, and Washington. They Called Us Enemy is a #1 New York Times bestselling graphic memoir by actor, author, and activist George Takei. Through vivid art and gripping storytelling, Takei recounts his childhood experience of incarceration following Executive Order 9066 in 1942, along with over 120,000 people of Japanese descent.

Three Boys Manzanar: Film Screening and Discussion

Discover the Emmy Award–winning short documentary Three Boys Manzanar, which reunites three men photographed as children while incarcerated at the Manzanar Internment Camp. Seventy years later, they revisit that moment and reflect on the lasting impact of their imprisonment. Director Preeti Mankar Deb and Executive Producer Akemi Ooka join us to share insights into the film and the importance of preserving this chapter of American history.

Introduction to 3D Design
Saturday, May 16th, 1:00pm, The Lab
Join us for an introduction to 3D design with an emphasis on 3D printing. We'll be learning about what CAD (computer aided design) is, the basics of using it and how it applies to modeling for 3D printing.
We will learn to use TinkerCAD and introduce a more professional platform, RhinoCAD. The class will go through instruction on using the program and a lesson with designing an object for 3D printing.
Burlingame Historical Society Presents: America's 250th Anniversary - West and East

Join us on Sunday, May 17 at 2 pm in the Lane Room of the library for a presentation on the Anza expedition, an expedition of 240 colonists who in June, 1776—just one month before the Declaration of Independence from England in the East—arrived at the newly designated San Francisco Presidio to found San Francisco under the Spanish flag.
Our speaker, Beverly Lane, has written several local history books and is a member of the boards of the Anza Trail Foundation and Contra Costa County Historical Society. In collaboration with the National Park Service, she recently curated, “The Anza Expedition, a 250th Commemoration Exhibit” for the MuseumSRV in Danville.

George will sit down for an interview to discuss his graphic novel, They Called Us Enemy, with LA County Library Director, Dr. Skye Patrick and Cathy De Leon, Director of Long Beach Public Library.

Caregive Support Group Saturday, May 16 from 2-3:30 PM Upper Level Meeting Room
Please join us for our next meeting of the Caregiver Support Group. This group is geared towards community members who are primary caregivers for loved ones and offers people a safe, supportive environment to discuss the challenges associated with caregiving. Possible topics of discussion include food resources, transportation options, friendly visitor programs, caring for pets, caring for yourself, how to talk to your loved one’s medical team, and how to cope with aggressive or out-of-control behavior.

Academy of Ballet & Etiquette presents Sleeping Beauty

Young dancers will leap, twirl, and stretch as they move to the beautiful ballet Sleeping Beauty.
At the Academy of Ballet and Etiquette, children ages 3-7 learn basic ballet steps, technique, and manners through the stories of famous ballets.
Registration is required. For Children ages 3 -7. Please register each child separately.
