SAT Practice Test Saturday, March 7 at 1:00-5:00 pm Foster City Library: Discovery Room Take your preparation for the SAT to the next level by attending our free practice test! We will conduct the test in an environment that simulates the actual test so you can be better prepared for the real situation. This practice test will allow you to identify gaps in content understanding and try out different pacing and answer strategies. After the test, scores will be emailed to you. Holi Tie Dye T-shirts Holi Monday, March 9 at 3:30 pm Foster City Library: Discovery Room Celebrate the coming of spring with Holi, the Hindu Festival of Colors! Create a tie-dyed t-shirt with bright colors to look like you just came from a traditional celebration with paint throwing, but without the mess. We'll learn about the colors and symbolism of the festival while we dye! We have t-shirts available, or bring your own items. Drop-in, as supplies last. We'll provide paper, pens, and pencils so bring your creative energy to this event. You can also bring drawings or pictures from home (2"x2"). Comic Character Design with Meggie Ramm Peninsula Libraries Comic Arts Fest Workshop Wednesday, March 11 from 3:30-4:30 pm Foster City Library: Teen Area Get ready to leave this class with a fully formed comic character! We’ll go over visual design and character development using some of the characters you know and love as examples! In this class, students will learn about different aspects of character design, such as choosing a recognizable silhouette and what clothing says about their character. We will work on different elements of visual design, go over the outline of the hero's journey, and mind map our characters' various characteristics. Women's Self Defense Seminar Women History Month Wednesday, March 11 at 6:30 pm Foster City Community Center: Wind Room The Urban Combat Women’s Self Defense seminar is a 2-hour reality based crash course in both the physical and psychological response to violence. The focus is on basic awareness skills, boundary setting strategies and instinctive combative techniques that function under adrenaline stress. Frida Kahlo: Appearances Can Be Deceiving Art Talk Wednesday, March 25 at 6:30pm Foster City Library: Teen Area Celebrate Women's History Month. Frida Kahlo: Appearances Can Be Deceiving examines how politics, gender, disability, and national identity influenced Kahlo's diverse modes of creativity. The deYoung exhibition features highly personal items, which came to light in 2004 at her lifelong home, La Casa Azul (now Museo Frida Kahlo) in Mexico City, with some 30 photographs, 20 vibrant Tehuana costumes from her wardrobe, personalized braces and prostheses plus Kahlo's paintings, drawings, and photographs reflecting her iconic style. Lauren will discuss why she wrote this book and how to help beginners think while playing. Lauren Goodkind is passionate about promoting chess in the community and has years of teaching experience. Indian Classical Dance Holi Sunday, March 29 at 1:30 pm Foster City Library: Children's Library Namitha Nagabhushan is a profound Indian classical dancer. She has been practicing “Bharathanatyam” ( a form of Indian classical dance) over the past 20 + years. Namitha has staged numerous solo and group performances in various cities and countries. Her choreography has been noteworthy and brought her many laurels. She has been trained from one of India’s fine dancer- B K Vasantha Laskhmi. Her Grace and quick movements are some of the highlights in her performances. With great passion and love toward Bharathanatyam, Namitha continues to perform and choreograph this art form.

Gurlswired Teen Coding Class Tuesdays, 3/3/20 - 5/5/20 from 6:30-8:00 PM Foster City Library: Discovery Room Gurlswired is hands on, organization, coding experience, led by experienced high school students, which aims to teach girls from ages 10 to 14 about the important languages of the future. In this course we will be focusing on the basics of Python, with the exception of some students who want to advance their learning. Space is limited. Adult Book Club Wednesday, March 11 at 7:30 pm Foster City Library: Discovery Room This month we're reading There, There by Tommy Orange. Tommy Orange's wondrous and shattering novel follows twelve characters from Native communities: all traveling to the Big Oakland Powwow, all connected to one another in ways they may not yet realize. Among them is Jacquie Red Feather, newly sober and trying to make it back to the family she left behind. Dene Oxendene, pulling his life together after his uncle's death and working at the powwow to honor his memory. Fourteen-year-old Orvil, coming to perform traditional dance for the very first time. Together, this chorus of voices tells of the plight of the urban Native American--grappling with a complex and painful history, with an inheritance of beauty and spirituality, with communion and sacrifice and heroism.
