& Inclusion SIG
Home
Southeastern New York Library Resources Council (SENYLRC) will offer a special interest group (SIG) to discuss Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion on Friday, July 10 from
10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The group plans to meet regularly as a place to share ideas of how to be better allies, co-workers, and humans. For more information and to register, visit the SENYLRC website.

Black Lives Matter: Community Read
OverDrive has launched a new program called Black Lives Matter: Community Read. The titles included in this program are intended to help patrons read, listen, learn and grow as they expand their knowledge of race relations. Donated by OverDrive, titles will be made available to libraries at no cost and patrons will be able to check out these books without waitlists or holds. Visit the OverDrive website to learn more.

ALA Resilient Communities:
Libraries Respond to Climate Change
The American Library Association (ALA) invites library workers to apply to be part of Resilient Communities: Libraries Respond to Climate Change, a pilot program to help public and academic libraries engage their communities in programs and conversations that address the climate change crisis. Applications will be accepted until Friday, August 28.

Resources
  • The American Library Association has new resources for Libraries Respond: Black Lives Matter. This is a great resource to become familiar with terminology that is important in racial equity work, a starting place to educate yourself about anti-racism and racial equity efforts within the profession, and tools to help you examine the language you use.
  • The Graphic Novels and Comics Round Table (GNCRT) of the American Library Association collaborated with the Black Caucus of the American Library Association (BCALA) on a new Black Lives Matter Comics Reading List that aims to draw attention to the Black experiences of the past and present to demand a new future for our Black friends and neighbors. It is our hope that this list will continue to grow and serve as an important resource going forward for educators, parents, and readers of all ages.
  • The Inclusive Services Assessment and Guide (for Wisconsin Libraries but it works in New York, too!)
