READsquared
The New York State Library is pleased to offer READsquared at no cost to public libraries statewide. READsquared is an online reading program solution.  This powerful application offers customization and configuration of CSLP-themed summer reading programs and other reading and learning programs, as well as readers' advisory tools for all ages and all reading levels.
The NY State Library received approval for purchase of the app and libraries are encouraged to take advantage of this extra feature. The app is supported with CARES act funds through December 2021.  If your library purchased the app this summer your contract will be extended to match the state contract.  Contact READsquared for more information.

Plan of Service
Focus Group Sessions
RCLS is working on creating its Plan of Service for 2022-2026. We want to hear from you, the library community. In our efforts to provide the best service possible to our member libraries, RCLS is conducting four (4) focus group sessions for library trustees.  Please encourage your trustees to share with us their ideas, concerns, and opinions during these focus group sessions scheduled in November, on the services and opportunities we can offer going forward.  Have them register today for one of the online sessions that best fits their schedule, job duties and responsibilities by using the RCLS online calendar.  The groups are limited to no more than 12 participants.  To assist them with their decision, each session is planned to run 90 minutes or less as needed.  Once registered, they will receive a Zoom link to attend the session two days before the session date.

The New Yorkers For Better Libraries PAC has come up with a unique fundraising idea to support New York libraries.  It’s a Karaoke fundraiser.  The upcoming 2021 budget cycle promises to be one of the most challenging that we, as a library community, have ever faced.  In order to be sure that our voices are heard, the PAC is asking you to consider making a donation to ensure that libraries have “a seat at the table” during upcoming State budget negotiations.  NYLA’s fearless Executive Director Jeremy Johannesen, will be regaling us with his karaoke singing prowess this year, and he’ll be on a live stream at 5 pm on Friday, November 6.  You get to vote on what song or songs he’ll be singing.  He’s chosen six songs, and you can vote as many times as you like ($20 donation per vote).  Everyone who votes and donates will be sent a Zoom invitation the morning of the November 6 live stream event.  Voting is now open!
