YSS Spring Conference Scholarships available
Library staff may now apply for the YSS Spring Conference Scholarships.  Two awards are given annually.  The first is the New Member Spring Conference Scholarship given to a new member of our profession.  The second is the Lisa C. Wemett Spring Conference Scholarship given to a highly motivated established librarian who has had a significant impact on youth and youth services in their community.  Each of the scholarships is designed to cover registration fees and up to $250 reimbursement for hotel charges, meals, and transportation costs for attending the Youth Services Section's Spring Conference on Friday, March 26th, 2021.  Applicants must be a member of NYLA/YSS.  The application deadline is February 1st, 2021.  For the application and more information visit  https://www.nyla.org/yss_conf.
Library director receives Senate Commendation Award
From Senator Jen Metzger's announcement:
Mary Paige Lang-Clouse, Director of the Ethelbert B. Crawford Public Library in Monticello, has done a tremendous job making the library a welcoming place for all and a genuine resource for community members. (The library housed my office's very first Tenants' Rights Workshop, and recently served as a drive-thru census location!) And when the weather gets nicer we have Mary Paige to thank for helping create the beautiful landscaped park adjacent to the library! In recognition of Mary Paige's work on behalf of the community, I was so pleased to present her with a Senate Commendation award last week.

Juvenile Book Preview
It's happening now and it’s VIRTUAL!

Due to pandemic restrictions, we will not be having in-house visits this year for you to look at the books as in previous years.  Instead, RCLS is having a virtual preview!

Click here to view the list of books in our preview session:
Book Preview Fall 2020 (1).pdf
You can print out the list, highlight the ones you want and send it to Eileen Acosta at RCLS.  Or you can fax your list - you will have to circle your selections because highlighting won't show on a fax - to Eileen at 845-243-3739.
You can request as many books as you like. After the preview, the books are divvied up among those who request them. We try to be as fair as possible - though sending chocolate with your list can't hurt.
There are a couple of changes from previous years.  The first is that Series Non Fiction is not a separate genre - it is with Non Fiction.  Also, you will see a new column on this preview list - a price column.  This is not a charge for you.  This is just to let you know how much money you are saving if you receive the book from RCLS.  There are some duplicates, paperbacks and Advanced Readers Copies (ARC).  Please circle one copy unless your second choice is an ARC.
There are over 900 books to choose from.  If you want to see reviews for a book you can check the Barnes & Noble website which has reviews from a number of publications, Kirkus, NoveList, or any of the other publications that you may frequent.
The preview will run through January 15.
