Spotlight on Movers & Shakers
The editors of Library Journal need your help in identifying emerging talents in the library world- both great leaders and behind-the-scenes contributors who are providing inspiration and model programs for others.  The 19th annual round of Movers & Shakers will profile up-and-coming individuals from around the world who are innovative, creative, and making a difference.  From librarians and non-degreed library workers to publishers, vendors, coders, entrepreneurs, reviewers, and others who impact the library field-and those helping serve their communities in new ways during the COVID-19 pandemic- Movers & Shakers 2021 will celebrate those people who are moving all types of libraries ahead.  Deadline to submit the online nomination form is December 2nd, 2020.

Plan of Service
Focus Group Sessions
RCLS is working on creating its Plan of Service for 2022-2026. We want to hear from you, the library community. In our efforts to provide the best service possible to our member libraries, RCLS is conducting four (4) focus group sessions for library trustees.  Please encourage your trustees to share with us their ideas, concerns, and opinions during these focus group sessions scheduled in November, on the services and opportunities we can offer going forward.  Have them register today for one of the online sessions that best fits their schedule, job duties and responsibilities by using the RCLS online calendar.  The groups are limited to no more than 12 participants.  To assist them with their decision, each session is planned to run 90 minutes or less as needed.  Once registered, they will receive a Zoom link to attend the session two days before the session date.

Governor Signs Legislation
Responding to the advocacy efforts of the Ramapo Catskill Library System (RCLS) and the RCLS Coalition for Library Workers of Color, on October 14, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo signed into law legislation designating Juneteenth as an official public holiday in New York State. The new law celebrates Juneteenth, a day which commemorates June 19, 1865, when the news of liberation came to Texas more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation went into effect on January 1, 1863.  The holiday celebrates Black and African American freedom and achievements, while encouraging continuous self-development and respect for all cultures. The governor stated, "This new public holiday will serve as a day to recognize the achievements of the Black community, while also providing an important opportunity for self-reflection on the systemic injustices that our society still faces today."
