Juvenile Book Preview - It's VIRTUAL!
Due to pandemic restrictions, we will not be having in-house visits this year for you to look at the books as in previous years.  Instead, RCLS is having a virtual preview!
Click here to view the list of books in our preview session.  You can print out the list, highlight the ones you want and send it to Eileen Acosta at RCLS.  Or you can fax your list - you will have to circle your selections because highlighting won't show on a fax - to Eileen at 845-243-3739.
You can request as many books as you like. After the preview, the books are divvied up among those who request them. We try to be as fair as possible - though sending chocolate with your list can't hurt.
There are a couple of changes from previous years.  The first is that Series Non Fiction is not a separate genre - it is with Non Fiction.  Also, you will see a new column on this preview list - a price column.  This is not a charge for you.  This is just to let you know how much money you are saving if you receive the book from RCLS.  There are some duplicates, paperbacks and Advanced Readers Copies (ARC).  Please circle one copy unless your second choice is an ARC.
There are over 900 books to choose from.  If you want to see reviews for a book you can check the Barnes & Noble website which has reviews from a number of publications, NoveList, Kirkus, or any of the other publications that you may frequent.
The preview will run through January 15.

ALA Penguin Random House Library Award for Innovation
Applications are now open for The Penguin Random House Library Award for Innovation.  The annual award recognizes libraries and librarians who create lasting innovative community service programs that successfully inspire and connect with new readers.
The award is open to public libraries.  The Penguin Random House Foundation sponsors the $10,000 cash prize given to a library.  The jury will award four runner-ups $1,000 in Penguin Random House books to eligible libraries.
"COVID-19 has pressed libraries to be more creative and resourceful than ever before, and we are so proud to support their vital work in our communities nationwide," said Skip Dye, Penguin Random House senior vice president of library sales.  "This award celebrates and honors libraries that have identified challenges facing their patrons and implemented inventive programs and initiatives which have had a profound and lasting impact."
More information about the award, application information, and selection criteria can be found  online.  The deadline for applications is Feb. 1, 2021.  The awards will be presented at the ALA annual conference that will take place in June 2021.

Help raise awareness about coping with COVID-19 by sharing resources provided by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is stressful for many people. People respond to stress in different ways and it is normal to experience a range of emotions, including fear, anxiety, and grief. Sharing accurate information about COVID-19 and strategies for coping can be an effective way to manage stress and connect with others. NIMH encourages you to use the hashtag #ShareNIMH in your social media posts to connect with people and organizations with similar goals. To access shareable informational graphics like the one pictured above, visit https://www.nimh.nih.gov/. To find even more social media resources, check out the National Institutes of Health (NIH) COVID-19 social media resources page.
