2019 RCLS Statistics
The 2019 RCLS Statistics are available on the RCLS website both as a PDF and an Excel file. Paper copies can be printed using the PDF version.
The Excel file allows the user to sort data and create reports as needed.  This file can also be accessed with Quattro Pro and Lotus 123 if Microsoft Excel is not available.
Adobe Acrobat Reader will be needed to view and print the PDF version of the file.
These numbers are compiled from the 2019 State Annual Reports.
The 2010 U.S. Census Bureau figures have been used to calculate the per capita statistics in this report.
Contact Martha Sullivan at RCLS (msullivan@rcls.org or ext. 247) with questions, comments or corrections.

Law Requires Public Library Trustees to Take Oath of Office
Many library trustee terms begin on July 1. This is an important reminder that New York State Public Officer's Law Section 10 requires all public library trustees (but not association library trustees) to take an oath of office within 30 days of beginning their term of office. Public library trustees are public officers and the oath of office is required to officially undertake and perform the duties of a public library trustee.
If a public library trustee does not properly complete and file an oath of office, the trustee’s position may be deemed vacant. See Public Officer's Law Section 30(1)(h).
For more information, see Oaths of Office FAQ on the New York State Library website.
For questions about the legal requirements for oaths of office or about library types, contact Stephen Hoefer, RCLS Fiscal Officer (shoefer@rcls.org or ext. 223).

Face Masks for Patience and Fortitude
New York Daily News, June 29
Leonard Greene writes: “They’ve been socially distancing for decades, and now the iconic lions that guard the main branch of the New York Public Library are wearing masks, too. Workers outfitted the marble lions, named Patience and Fortitude, with Jurassic-sized masks to set an example and remind New Yorkers to stay safe and follow expert guidelines to combat the spread of COVID-19.”
