New York State COVID-19 Documentation Initiative

The Office of Cultural Education (OCE), made up of the New York State Archives, Library and Museum, has been working to support New York State’s cultural community throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic. OCE has formed the New York State COVID-19 Documentation Initiative to collect information on documentation efforts on the local, state and national level, as well as funding opportunities and reopening information for cultural organizations.

The newly created New York State COVID-19 Documentation Initiative website will serve as an information clearinghouse for archives, historical societies, libraries, museums and other cultural institutions across the state. Your library can contribute to the archive of COVID-19 stories by sharing your collections with the New York State COVID-19 Documentation Initiative. What is Sora?

Similar to the Libby app, Sora is OverDrive’s app for K-12 schools. Several school districts in the RCLS service area are already using Sora to provide students with OverDrive eResources. If schools in your community are using Sora, your library has the opportunity to connect students with additional resources on a familiar platform. Students can use the "Add a public library" feature in their Sora account to add an RCLS library card, which grants them access to borrow and place holds within our RCLS OverDrive collection. Students who do not yet have library cards may wish to sign up for one through your library's online registration form. For more information, visit the OverDrive website.

One More Story

One More Story, which is part of the statewide DayByDayNY resource, now has two new books of the day for parents and caregivers to read with young children as they help instill and promote the values of early literacy and reading. Check out the new daily books and fun early literacy activities on the DayByDayNY website.

The Family Literacy Calendar resource is a great way to read and explore new books with children or preview books that they might want to borrow from their local public library.

DayByDayNY is also available in Spanish on the DayByDayNY website.

Big Library Read from OverDrive

OverDrive has scheduled the next Big Library Read for August 3-17. The Darwin Affair by Tim Mason will be available in eBook and audiobook format, for simultaneous use, at no cost to your library. Marketing materials are available to help spread the word in your community.
