OverDrive changes
Based on user feedback and testing, OverDrive has decided to discontinue support for the Libby app for Windows and focus development resources on the more widely used Android and iOS platforms. Windows users will still be able to use Libby on their device in-browser at libbyapp.com and OverDrive will provide in-app messaging to help impacted users with this transition. Libbyapp.com offers the same great features as the app-store version of Libby, except the ability to download books for offline use. To access this functionality, users can download Libby for iOS or Android on a compatible device.

Plan of Service
Focus Group Sessions
RCLS is working on creating our Plan of Service for 2022-2026. We want to hear from you, our library community. In our efforts to provide the best service possible to our member libraries, RCLS is conducting four (4) focus group sessions for library trustees.   Please encourage your trustees to share with us their ideas, concerns, and opinions during these focus group sessions scheduled in November, on the services and opportunities we can offer going forward.  Have them register today for one of the online sessions that best fits their schedule, job duties and responsibilities by using the RCLS online calendar.  The groups are limited to no more than 12 participants.  To assist them with their decision, each session is planned to run 90 minutes or less as needed.  Once registered, they will receive a Zoom link to attend the session two days before the session date.

Adult Literacy Library Services Program Grants
Congratulations to the four member libraries that are recipients of the 2020 Adult Literacy Library Services Program Grants. The RCLS Board of Trustees has approved the following programs and award amounts:
  • Pearl River Public Library, Adult-Tech. It's Never Too Late to Get Started with Coding and Robotics, $1,500. The goal of this project is to teach coding and app development classes to Seniors, ethnic minorities, and Veterans to enhance their digital literacy skills and to provide them with career development opportunities.
  • New City Public Library, Distance Learning with EZ English News!, $1,111,26.  The overall goal of the project is to allow more tutor/student pairs to gain access to the educational resource called EZ English News published by Elizabeth Claire by increasing subscription quantity.
  • Newburgh Free Library, Career Smart @ Your Library, $1,500.  Participants of the Career Smart program will learn how to find a career that matches their passions and skill sets, valuable technology skills to add to their resume, and how to market themselves as applicants.
  • Josephine-Louise Public Library, Walden, Coronavirus Career Counseling: Resources for Your Next Move, $1,250.  The goal of the program is to assist those who have been laid off from their jobs due to the pandemic or those who are underemployed and seeking new position opportunities.
Again, congratulations!
