The 2020 RCLS Annual Business Meeting will be held virtually on Friday, September 25 at
10 am.  The agenda includes approval of the 2019 Annual Meeting minutes, presentation of the 2021 RCLS Budget and election of two RCLS trustees; one each from Orange and Rockland counties. Please make reservations to join us using the RCLS online calendar. Once you have registered, RCLS Executive Director Grace Riario will send out a link to the virtual meeting two days before the event.  Prior to the meeting, you can review the biographies of the trustee candidates - Anita Baumann of Florida, NY and Karen Bash-Romaner of Suffern, NY.

Need to Call RCLS ?
With the recent retirement of Executive Administrative Assistant Ruth Daubenspeck, important duties at RCLS Headquarters have been reassigned among the rest of the staff.  On the RCLS website, under the Main Menu banner, there is a dropdown under the “About” heading.  In the listings that appear is "Whom to Contact".
This list shows staff responsibilities and will help you and other member library staff reach the right person when contacting RCLS.

Newsletter Clarification
Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration of the end of slavery.  Many Black Americans have celebrated Juneteenth or “Freedom Day” in the years since 1865.
RCLS would like to clarify the article in last week's edition of RCLS News.  In a letter composed to Governor Cuomo in support of instituting Juneteenth as a statewide holiday, primary authors were Peyton Powell, Finkelstein Memorial Library in Spring Valley and Tracy Dunstan, Nyack Library.  Letter writing support was provided by RCLS staff, the Advocacy Committee within the Coalition of Library Workers of Color and Emily Dowie, Pearl River Public Library & Coalition President and Elizabeth Portillo, Finkelstein Memorial Library and Vice President/Acting Chair of the Advocacy Committee.

National Voter Registration Day
On September 22, Americans will mark National Voter Registration Day with a cross-country effort to register voters in advance of Election Day this November.
Thousands of national, state, and local groups who are partner organizations, will coordinate hundreds of events on and offline to drive attention to voter registration.  The effort’s website provides a listing of National Voter Registration Day events across the country, in communities and held virtually.  The day is designed to create an annual moment when the entire nation focuses on registering Americans to exercise their most basic right – the right to vote.
Locally, Walden’s Josephine-Louise Public Library is proud to be a National Voter Registration Day partner.  On September 22, the Library will engage its community and register voters during the hours of 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. at its
5 Scofield Street location.
