Mah Jongg for Beginners with Misha Fredericks Tuesdays, 7/2, 7/9, 7/16 & 7/23 1 - 2 PMCome discover the fascinating game of Mah Jongg! You will learn the tiles and basic rules of the game in a slow, fun, and engaging format. Fee covers the cost of the 2024 National Mah Jongg League card needed to play the game.
Misha Fredericks, a Mathematics Tutor and amateur Mah Jongg player who wishes to share her joy of the game with others.

Butterfly Gardening with Jessica WilliamsWednesday, July 10 7 - 8 PM Help increase the numbers of these graceful beauties by creating a Butterfly Garden! Even a tiny space can benefit the declining populations and you'll be rewarded with a chance to watch their fascinating life cycle unfold before your eyes. Learn about the native plants and colorful annuals that they love as well as gardening techniques that help support them through out the seasons. You'll learn how to make a decorative terracotta saucer "puddle" that supports the mineral requirements of your butterflies to take home.

AARP Driver Safety ClassFriday, July 12 8:30 - 3:30 PM Cost: $25 for AARP members/$30 for non-members Cal the library at 255-1255 or stop by to register. Learn more here. Quilled Paper Jewelry with Carlise Azmitia Saturday, July 13 10:30 - 12 PM Cost: $10 Registration required here. Teens also welcome.Learn the basics of quilling, and design, through jewelry making! Students will choose to make a necklace, bracelet, earring, hairline or ring. If you've always wanted to learn quilling this is the class for you! Attachments provided to make different pieces at home included. Carlise Azmitia is a fiber artist, classical art instructor and native of the Hudson Valley. She regularly travels the region to share her love for all things creative and to teach classes. Carlise is the owner of her studio, the Hudson Valley Atelier, where she also teaches.

Free Form Wire Wrapped Gemstone Jewelry Class with Janet BaskervilleSaturday, July 20 10 - 12 PM Cost: $15 (all materials included) Registration required here. Teens also welcome. Learn a method of freeform wire wrapping a tumbled gemstone with silver plated wire. You will have a large assortment of colorful gemstones to choose from. No special skills or tools required, this is a beginner level class.
Jewelry is Janet's passion as she likes the tactile nature of combining various methods of construction, such as forging metal, coppersmithing, beading, resin casting and the inclusion of relic-like found objects and artifacts. Janet also enjoys mixed-media collage and uses paint, paper, fabric, fibers, resin, wood and clay in her work as well.

Creative Painting with Laura LeighTuesday, July 30 4:30 - 5:30 PM Cost: $15 Ages 7+. Registration required here. Create abstract paintings using your imagination with local painter Laura Leigh. Young artists will have an opportunity to discover their own artistic style. Laura Leigh will work with each student individually to foster a love for creating art. Laura Lanchantin is a fine artist, musician, and maker of organic watercolor paints based in New Paltz. Laura blends the line between abstraction and landscape in her plein air oil paintings.

Ben will be a senior at Wallkill High School and on top of playing D&D he is also a drummer and tennis player. Ben has been a fan of D&D for almost 3 years and it has completely changed his creative outlook on life and hopes it can for you too!

Join the Library's Teen Advisory Board (TAB)12 years and older Summer is a great time to fulfill community service hours. TAB participants help the library with upcoming events and programs, and can create their own programming too. Volunteering time at the library can be used to fulfill community service hours for Honor Society, school/community responsibilities where public service hours are required, or on job and college resumes.

Community ReikiFirst Sundays noon - 2 PM First come, first served. Free 20 minute reiki sessions. Recipients sit in a chair or lie on a comfortable table, clothed, while the practitioner lightly places hands on or above the recipient. The effect is of peace and deep rest for the recipient. HV Community Reiki has been providing Reiki sessions at the Gardiner Library since 2017.

Virtual Italian Conversational Class Wednesdays (last class for the semester 5/22) 5:30 - 6:30 PM Register here to receive Zoom link (same link every week).This weekly class is designed for people who have some knowledge of the Italian language and would like to improve their conversational skills. Dr. Ornella Lepri Mazzuca is a native speaker of Italian and has been facilitating the conversational class at the Gardiner Library since 2016. She graduated from the University of Urbino, Italy, with a Doctorate in English, French and Italian. She later earned an MA in Spanish and Linguistics and a PhD in Spanish Literature.

Tiny Roost Summer Exhibit: The Four Disagreements by Tyson Hauf and Nataly Z. Goldfisch Presentation (outdoors): Friday, June 28 at 4 PMOutdoor gallery is accessible 24/7. Learn more about Meadow and the exhibit here. Nataly is an Associate Professor at SUNY New Paltz. Her area of research focuses on the intersectionality between philosophy of mathematics education, aesthetics, and deep ecology and has authored numerous books and articles Tyson has performed and shown his work in several states over the last two decades. His preference for exhibitions are outside the traditional art world, consisting of popup art displays, street performances, and improvisational creative outbursts/situations.

Recycling StationRecycling shed behind library. Open during normal library hours. Items accepted include: Oral care products (empty toothpaste tubes, toothbrushes, floss containers), corks, empty ink cartridges, empty pens/highlighters/markers, clean socks (singles or pairs), caps and pencils (mechanical and wooden), razors and outer packaging and crayons.

Project Linus Initiative
