Repair Cafe Gardiner

Repair Café Gardiner is a free community event where we bring our beloved but broken items, and together, with volunteer Repair Coaches, we fix them. Broken items include small appliances, lamps, clothing, frames, chairs and more.
 
Volunteer Repair Coaches bring their own tools and supplies and offer repairs at no cost. If you would like to volunteer, the commitment can be on a per-event basis. Contact RepairCafeGardiner@gmail.com for more information.

Writing Workshop with Laurence Carr - Writing the Short Form: Flash Fiction, Micro-Essays, Prose Poems and Memoirs
Meets first Saturdays
12 - 1:30 PM (new time)
 
Award winning author and publisher, Laurence Carr, will conduct writing workshops concentrating on short forms. Throughout these sessions, writers will gather ideas and subject matter to create pieces of less than 600 words in length. Free-writes from prompts will be given in each session. Pieces will be drafted into finished works over the course of the workshops. Part of each class will also be devoted to specific elements of creative writing: structure, character, world of story, exposition, and other components. Discussions will continue about publishing possibilities. Writers can attend one or more sessions depending upon their availability.

Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention  
Meets twice a week for 8 weeks, on Tuesdays at 11am (beginning 9/9) and Thursdays (beginning 9/11) at 2:30pm. Please register only if you can commit to attending all or most classes as they build on each other.

Tai chi is a slow, rhythmic and graceful exercise that promotes good health and overall well being. Practicing tai chi increases strength, flexibility and mobility, improves posture and balance, and reduces pain and stress.
 
Debbie Birch currently works in the hospital as a physical therapist, heath educator and Qi Gong and stress management expert. Her training experience encompasses pilates, gyrotonics, kettlebells, ball, tubes, bands, step, tai chi, Qi Gong, yoga, and all types of aqua workouts. Sponsored by the U.C. Office of the Aging in partnership with Ellenville Regional Hospital.
Youth Programs
Family Drum Circle with Elizabeth Pupo-Walker
Tuesday, August 12

Ages: 5+ THIS WEEK! A FEW SPOTS LEFT.
Cost: $5 per child. Registration required here. Limited spaces.
 
Elizabeth will share a variety of small percussion instruments as she leads call and response rhythms, encourages improvisation in a drum circle setting, and will teach an array of songs that everyone can play along to. Some songs learned will be simple African folk songs, others Brazilian and some that everyone will know from the United States. 
 
Elizabeth contributes to various film score/soundtracks with Netflix and HBO. She has performed, and/or recorded with numerous musicians including Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Femi Kuti, Harry Styles, and many others and has performed on Jimmy Fallon, Conan O’Brien, and The James Corden Show. Elizabeth has had the honor of performing at some of our country’s finest venues including Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall

Jewelry Camp with Heather Kort

Students explore a variety of jewelry making techniques such as beadmaking, wet felting, metal bending/manipulation and adding appropriate closures to their designs. Use some unique materials like resin, paint and clay to create original jewelry pieces, and the beauty of camp is that we can leave our work to dry and cure overnight! Students should pack a healthy snack and bring a water bottle each day.
 
Heather has an AAS in Fashion Design from FIT, a Masters in Art Education, and is certified to teach art in NYS, grades K-12. She taught elementary and high school art for 8 years, and currently teaches Continuing Education art classes through the New Paltz Central School District. Heather enjoys making things, and also loves to help children make things!

Art Show
New Experiment Wildly: Jennifer Levine Art Show
July 1 - August 30
 
Recently discovering a new medium - Flashe Acrylics, Levine uses art historical references, mythology, imagination and observation to create vibrant and surprising paintings with the intent of stirring the soul. In her artwork Jennifer fuses modernist styles of painting with her background as a puppeteer, and as a graduate of the San Francisco School of Circus Arts.

Dr. Ornella Lepri Mazzuca is a native speaker of Italian and has been facilitating the conversational class at the Gardiner Library since 2016. She graduated from the University of Urbino, Italy, with a Doctorate in English, French and Italian. She later earned an MA in Spanish and Linguistics and a PhD in Spanish Literature from the University at Albany.

As a RN for almost 40 years, Susan has worked in hospitals, nursing homes, home care and most recently as a Nursing Instructor at BOCES. For 22 years she has been a student of Dr. Marshall Rosenberg the founder of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and led NVC practice groups and workshops for 8 years. As a facilitator, Susan's goal is to focus on what is alive for the group. Susan is also able to talk about aspects of intuition that include clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience and claircognizance as well as discuss the chakra systems and talk about energy work.

Community Reiki
Sunday, June 1 (first Sundays)

First come, first served.
Free 20 minute reiki sessions.

Recipients sit in a chair or lie on a comfortable table, clothed, while the practitioner lightly places hands on or above the recipient. The effect is of peace and deep rest for the recipient. HV Community Reiki has been providing Reiki sessions at the Gardiner Library since 2017.

Oral care products (empty toothpaste tubes, toothbrushes,
floss containers), eyeglasses, empty ink cartridges, empty pens/highlighters/markers, clean socks (singles or pairs), caps and pencils (mechanical and wooden), razors and outer packaging and crayons.

Project Linus Initiative

Project Linus distributes handmade sewn, knitted or crocheted blankets to children in need. All blankets made for the Gardiner Library initiative will be donated within Ulster County. Go to the library to learn more or or contact Denise (deniseaumick@gmail.com) or Jackie (byjam@ix.netcom.com).

"Pick up" passes and "print at home" passes are available.
Passes can be reserved in advance.
