The Gardiner Library and Wild Ones Mid-Hudson Valley are hosting a native plant sale to complement the library’s pollinator garden. The small plants, called landscape plugs, are much less expensive than container plants and an excellent way to keep costs down while trying out some new plants. Proceeds to benefit the library.Master Gardeners from Ulster County Cornell Cooperative Extension on site to answer all gardening questions.
Plants are $4 each. Cash or check preferred. Debit/credit available.

Poetry Writing for Everyone with Richard ParisioThursdays 4/16, 4/23, 4/30 and 5/7 (4 week series) 2:30 - 4:15 PMEnjoy writing different kinds of poems with an experienced teacher and writer in a friendly, supportive environment. All levels of experience are welcome. In his work as a naturalist and educator, and in his poetry, Parisio explores the intersections between human and non-human lives. His chapbook, The Owl Invites Your Silence, won the 2014 Slapering Hol Press Poetry Chapbook Award. His poetry collection, Trailside Register, was recently published by Bushwhack Books. As New York State Coordinator for the River of Words Program, Richard Parisio taught lessons in nature poetry writing to K-12 students and teachers. Richard also has taught poetry workshops for seniors through the Lifetime Learning Institute.

Demystifying Dahlias with Jessica WilliamsSaturday, April 18 11 - 12 PM Cost:$10 Registration required here.This class is perfect for beginning dahlia growers! Learn how to start seeds and tubers, use organic fertilizing, best practices for growing in pots, and how to avoid common problems. Hands on demonstrations of how to make cuttings and divide tubers. We'll look at the fascinating history of dahlias to better understand their growth habits and discuss saving seeds as well as digging and storage of tubers. Discover dahlias that are great for pollinators and which ones make the best cut flowers! All participants will receive seeds to take home.

Join Ella Schwarzbaum from Phillies Bridge Farm Project for a presentation about the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farm model and how it can support local communities.

In this interactive roundtable discussion, participants will discuss their experience, hopes and concerns for this fast-moving, fast-improving technology. We will begin with personal experience at work, at home, at school, and as a “creative,” and then discuss the importance of acquiring understanding, knowledge and an evolving, flexible point of view and protocol for personal uses of AI. Carol Bergman is a former Adjunct Associate Professor of writing at NYU and a much published award-winning author active in the Authors Guild and PEN. She is a trained conflict resolution mediator and has facilitated discussions locally, nationally and internationally.

Understanding Dementia and Positive Care: Community TrainingTuesdays, April 21 through May 26 6:30 - 8 PM Cost: $25 for 6 week series This sequential course empowers families, workers, and community members with accurate information to improve relationships through Teepa Snow's "Positive Approach to Care". Each session builds on previous learnings to foster deep understanding and practical skills for supporting those living with dementia. Rev. Eileen, a lifelong Ulster County resident, established H.E.A.R.T.S. (Respite for All) in 2022 to support families navigating dementia and Alzheimer's. Drawing from her learning and personal experience since 2018, she is dedicated to empowering caregivers and the community to improve daily lives through this specialized outreach.

Adult Yoga with Laura WallsWednesdays 10 - 11 AM Cost: $60 for 8 classes (classes do not need to be taken consecutively) Register on the online calendar here. The tradition of Hatha Yoga – creating balance and uniting opposites – informs Laura's teaching. A series of movements follows with cues for transitioning from one posture to the next. Postures may be seated, standing, or lying on the floor. Postures are explained, modeled and tailored to needs/desires of each person. Laura has lived most of her life in Gardiner, and with her husband, raised her children here. Now retired, she loves sharing yoga. Laura received her Kripalu Yoga Teacher Certificate in 2013.

She graduated from the University of Urbino, Italy, with a Doctorate in English, French and Italian. She later earned an MA in Spanish and Linguistics and a PhD in Spanish Literature from the University at Albany.

Art Club for Adults with Heather Kort Meets first and third Fridays 11 - 1 PM Coffee and tea will be served. All materials will be supplied. Each class will include a simple, structured lesson, or drop in with your own ideas, sketchbooks, art supplies and materials to work on alongside us. Topics explored may include still life, landscape, zendoodling, surface creation, perspectives and more. This is a zero-pressure environment- no experience with art is necessary. Heather will be there making her own artwork, and will be ready to help those who want it. Sometimes all you need is an open table and a scheduled place to meet to get creating. Heather Kort has a Master's in Art Education from SUNY Oswego and an AAS in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology. She enjoys teaching art to students of all ages!

Writing Workshop with Laurence Carr - Writing the Short Form: Flash Fiction, Micro-Essays, Prose Poems and Memoirs First Saturdays 12 - 1:15 PM Writers will gather ideas and subject matter to create pieces of less than 600 words in length. Free-writes from prompts will be given in each session. Pieces will be drafted into finished works over the course of the workshops. Part of each class will also be devoted to specific elements of creative writing: structure, character, world of story, exposition, and other components. Discussions will continue about publishing possibilities.

Community ReikiFirst Sundays noon - 2 PM First come, first served. Free 20 minute reiki sessions. Recipients sit in a chair or lie on a comfortable table, clothed, while the practitioner lightly places hands on or above the recipient. The effect is of peace and deep rest for the recipient. HV Community Reiki has been providing Reiki sessions at the Gardiner Library since 2017.

Items accepted include: Oral care products (empty toothpaste tubes, toothbrushes, floss containers), eyeglasses, empty ink cartridges, empty pens/highlighters/markers, clean socks (singles or pairs), caps and pencils (mechanical and wooden), razors and outer packaging and crayons.
