Last week, we had some American history trivia for you. Here are the answers!

Question: Which song was written by Katherine Lee Bates, an English teacher at Wellesley College, following her trip to the top of the 14,110 foot Pikes Peak in the Rockies, Colorado?
Answer: "America the Beautiful" was inspired by the view from Pikes Peak.

Question: Garrett Morgan, the son of former slaves, invented and received a patent in the 1920's for a now-common device. He later sold the rights to General Electric for $40,000. What was the device?
Answer: Traffic signal with a third warning position. Morgan also invented a "safety hood" and used it to save multiple men from a tunnel explosion.

New and wonderful
Sick : a memoir by Porochista Khakpour
“A beautifully written, unflinchingly honest account of what it is like to live with chronic illness.” - Marly, West Slope Library
Himself by Jess Kidd
“This is probably one of the best books that came out last year that you’ve never heard of. It’s partly a mystery and partly a ghost story and partly the story of a small Irish village that seems charming on the outside but is hiding some seriously dark secrets.” - Jennie, Beaverton City Library
The Woman Who Smashed Codes by Jason Fagone
“Captivatingly illuminates the life a remarkable woman, restoring her to her rightful place in code-breaking history." - Laura T, Cedar Mill Library
