Congratulations, Torie!
Lewisville's Newest Adult Services Librarian
 
Torie, our former Library Assistant, has been promoted to Adult Services Librarian! 
 
She holds a Master of Library and Information Science from Drexel University and recently earned a second master’s degree in Art History & Provenance from the University of Glasgow. Before joining the Lewisville Branch, Torie worked as a research and instructional librarian at Southwest Community College in Sylva, as well as a youth services librarian with Petree Elementary, Hendersonville County Public Library, Forsyth County Public Library, and Greensboro Public Library.
 
Torie enjoys reading across all genres and has a true passion for library programming. She is excited to create engaging, informative, and fun programs tailored to our adult community.

Adult Programs 
Belly Dancing for Beginners
Friday, May 1 at 11 a.m.

Get your shimmy on! Put on some comfortable clothes and shoes and join us at Belly Dancing for Beginners. Learn the basic moves of this beautiful dance form as we bring people of all ages together to promote health, happiness, and community. The classes are recommended for adults 55+ and suitable for all shapes, sizes, and fitness levels.

Come and join yarn crafters who like to knit, crochet, embroider, and such. Share each other’s company and maybe a tip or two about a project. Tai Chi in Park
Tai Chi for Beginners
Friday, May 8 and 22 at 2 p.m.

Learn the calming practice of Tai Chi at the Lewisville Branch Library. This form of low-impact exercise and deep breathing is known to reduce stress and improve balance, strength, and flexibility.
 
An exercise waiver is required, and attendees younger than 18 must have a parental/guardian's signature. Registration opens two weeks before the May 8 and May 22 class and is required.  
Lewisville Historical Society Presents ... The Regulator Movement in North Carolina
Monday, May 11 at 6 p.m.

Learn how the Regulator Movement shaped local history and influenced the path toward independence at the next Lewisville Historical Society Presents.
 
Historian and author Marcia D. Phillips will discuss her new book, The Regulator Movement in North Carolina: Prelude to the Revolution, which explores the bold grassroots uprising of backcountry farmers who challenged corrupt colonial officials and helped lay the groundwork for revolution in North Carolina. 
 
In partnership with the Lewisville Branch Library, the Lewisville Historical Society hosts bimonthly presentations ranging from local history to information about historical sites to antiquities.
 
Participants do not need to be members of the society to attend. A short business meeting of the society is held before the featured program begins at 6:30 p.m. Light refreshments are served. Books for Dudes Book Club

Then the Lewisville Branch Library has the perfect book club for you. Join us as dudes share, discuss, and recommend their favorite books to other dudes. There will not be a pre-set reading list. The group is recommended for dudes, but all are welcome.

FCPL Lewisville Branch Reading Contest

Take part our yearlong reading contest for your chance to win a $25 gift card to Bookmarks. The contest has two levels: Beginner and Aficionado. You can choose to read one or both levels. Beginner entries are entered once. Aficionado entries are entered twice, and if both levels are completed, you're entered four times to win. Submit entries by Saturday, Dec. 12. The winner will be announced on Monday, Dec. 14.

Libraries with Heart
Blood Pressure Stations  

High blood pressure has no symptoms, so know your numbers by checking your blood pressure at the Lewisville Branch Library. Eight Forsyth County Public Library branches including the Lewisville Branch Library have self-monitoring blood pressure stations and health information as part of the American Heart Association's Libraries with Heart program.

Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
Multipurpose Room
 
Forsyth County Department of Social Services (DSS) staff members will be on site one day per week to answer residents’ questions, provide information, and help people apply for DSS services including energy programs, food and nutrition assistance, and Medicaid.
DSS will also provide on-site assistance and case follow-up for Forsyth County residents with active DSS cases. 
 
No appointment necessary.

Dungeons & Dragons Meetup Group for Teens

Have you ever wanted to learn to play Dungeons & Dragons? Are you an experienced player who would like a place to meet up and have adventures? Join the Lewisville Branch Dungeons & Dragons meetup group! The game board, dice, and character sheets will be provided. This program is recommended for teens, but all are welcome. Pokémon Club

Play battle games, meet up with other fans, trade cards, and more at the Pokémon Club. The Lewisville Branch chapter of the club meets every first Wednesday, and the Clemmons Branch Chapter meets on the third Wednesday of the month. Players of all abilities are welcome. As a board member, you'd take an active role in shaping the future of the organization, allocating funds, fundraising and recruiting new members. If you're looking for a way to volunteer in your community and support the library at the same time, then this is a perfect place to start.
