Enjoy book club selections without the meeting. We will select a monthly book club selection on the first of each month; you check it out from the Library (monthly selections will be available at the circulation desk and online, if available).

Board Game Night featuring
Mah Jongg
Mondays throughout August at 6:30pm
 
Join us for a weekly meetup to play Board Games, including American Mah Jongg! The Library is excited to offer an assortment of board games, including card games, strategy games, party games, and Mah Jongg sets in an inviting space to play each Monday night.  
 
After a quick introduction, you'll be off and running with different fun games each week! Participants are also welcome to bring your own favorite games to share. If you would like to play Mah Jongg, please indicate this on your registration; National Mah Jongg League rules will be followed. If you already have a NMJL Card of Standard Hands and Rules, please bring it with you.

Wednesdays throughout August at 10:00am
 
Join us for a weekly meetup to play American Mah Jongg! The Library is excited to offer Mah Jongg sets, card tables, and an inviting space to play each Wednesday morning. National Mah Jongg League rules will be followed. If you already have a NMJL Card of Standard Hands and Rules, please bring it with you.
 
Please note that no instruction will be offered during this program. Registration is required for any sessions you would like to attend; space is limited.

Reel Talk Film Club
Tuesday, August 5, 7:00pm
 
Join us to discuss the four short films: Come Again in Spring (2007) [Animation, 12 minutes], I'm Not a Robot (2023) [23 minutes], The Orchestra (2015) [15 minutes], and The Masterpiece (La Gran Obra) (2023) [20 minutes].
 
Come Again in Spring Summary: An old man tries to negotiate with Death. 
 
I'm Not a Robot Summary: After repeatedly failing CAPTCHA tests, music producer Lara becomes obsessed with a disturbing question about whether she could be a robot
 
The Orchestra Summary: Tiny musicians follow a shy, elderly man, playing the soundtrack to his lonely life.
 
The Masterpiece (La Gran Obra) Summary: Leo and Diana, a wealthy couple, meet Salif and Yousef, two scrap dealers, at a recycle center. Offering them more junk, Diana invites them to their mansion, but the immigrants actually might be the ones with something she wants.

I Love a Mystery Book Club
Wednesday, August 6, 7:00pm
 
Whether you savor a cozy murder mystery, a classic whodunit, or a thriller, I Love a Mystery Book Club is a great way to add to your “to read” list. This month's book is Under Lock and Skeleton Key by Gigi Pandian.

Steel Drum Concert with Phil Andrews
Thursday, August 7, 7:00pm
 
We're bringing the beach to you this summer with an exciting night of steel drumming from musician Phil Andrews. This solo concert will feature a variety of songs such as Soca, Calypso, Reggae, Pop and Jazz. Phil will also talk about steel drum types, how they are made and their origins. 
 
This program is generously sponsored by a Community Fund grant as part of our Summer Reading Program.

Crafting with Lisa: Quick Quilling!
Monday, August 11, 7:00pm
 
Quilling is the art of rolling thin paper strips into spirals, ovals, teardrops, and similar shapes, which then can be combined to form flowers, landscapes, or larger free-form pieces of art!  After learning the basics, you will combine your shapes into a design of your choosing before popping your creation into an open frame for display.  All supplies will be provided.  Fair warning: due to the detailed nature of this craft, if you wear readers/cheaters... BRING THEM!  :)
