We will select a monthly book club selection on the first of each month; you check it out from the Library (monthly selections will be available at the circulation desk and online, if available). September's book will be: Marriage at Sea by Sophie Elmhirst. No registration required.

Learn the basics of knitting in a eight-week course offered on Monday mornings from 10:00am-11:00am. Instructor Ann Marie will have needles and yarn for practice (although supplies may be limited -- please bring your own yarn if you can!). Beginner patterns will be available for a neck warmer, fingerless gloves, scarves and other items. Registering for the first occurrence will register you for all eight Monday morning sessions. |

Join us for a weekly meetup to play Board Games, including American Mah Jongg! The Library is excited to offer an assortment of board games, including card games, strategy games, party games, and Mah Jongg sets in an inviting space to play each Monday night. After a quick introduction, you'll be off and running with different fun games each week! Participants are also welcome to bring your own favorite games to share. If you would like to play Mah Jongg, please indicate this on your registration; National Mah Jongg League rules will be followed. If you already have a NMJL Card of Standard Hands and Rules, please bring it with you.

Join the Billerica Public Library and the Billerica Lions Club for an informative community session about Cerebral Visual Impairment (CVI) with Lotfi B. Merabet, OD PhD MPH. CVI is a condition in which the eyes may be healthy, but the brain has difficulty making sense of what the child sees. Children with CVI may have trouble finding an object in a busy room, recognizing things in a crowded picture, or keeping up when there is a lot to look at. This program will explain CVI in clear, everyday language and explore how a child’s surroundings can make visual tasks easier or harder. This session is for parents, grandparents, educators, caregivers, health professionals, and anyone interested in supporting children with vision challenges. Come learn, ask questions, and discover ways to help children better use the vision they have. |

Our monthly Memory Cafe, jointly sponsored by the Library, COA, and Dementia Friendly Billerica, takes place in the Library's meeting room on the second Wednesday of the month. The Memory Cafe is an open and welcoming event for people with memory loss and their care partners. Artist Joan Turner will lead a painting class at the Billerica Council on Aging. Meet Julia Child!Thursday, September 24, 7:00pm The Billerica Public Library is thrilled to welcome back the Delvena Theatre Company for "Meet Julia Child!" A live performance featuring Julia Child doing what she did best. Learn more about her life, from her privileged childhood in California when she had no interest in food, to becoming one of the culinary legends of all time. See Julia on the set of The French Chef television show for an amusing, fun experience! After the performance, the cast will open up for discussion. Saturday, September 26, 10:00am The Billerica Public Library, in collaboration with the University of Massachusetts Lowell and with funding from the Massachusetts Broadband Institute, is offering a free in-person Digital Literacy course designed for beginners who want to learn the basics of computer and internet use. This course will introduce participants to essential technology skills, including: - Creating and using an email account
- Sending and receiving emails
- Searching the internet effectively
- Creating Word documents
- An introduction to artificial intelligence (AI) tools.
NOTE: Interpreters are available for this course and must be requested when registering. Participants who complete the course will receive a free Chromebook computer. The course will consist of six 2-hour sessions held on Saturdays September 19 through October 24 from 10:00am–12:00pm in the 2nd floor Conference Room. |

Saturday, September 26, 12:30pm The University of Massachusetts Lowell will offer a free Technology Help Desk at the library on Saturdays from September 26-October 31 from 12:30pm-1:30pm. Community members are welcome to stop by for assistance with computers, smartphones, tablets, or other technology questions. No appointment is necessary; help will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. |
