RA Tips
Reduce! Reuse! Recycle!

One of the things I miss most about working in the public library is having face-to-face reader's advisory conversations with patrons. But great recommendations shouldn't be left there -- they can be retooled into other formats for more readers to enjoy.

If you're trying to get the most out of your RA work, check out RA maven Susan Brown's tips below.

A bookmark is a blog post is a Pinterest board
Say, for example, you compile a list of horror novels to share with readers. But what do you do with the list other than wait for horror readers to approach you?

Maximize on your hard work:
  1. Make a bookmark or flyer (like the one above).
  2. Use the flyer as the basis of a display asking What kind of horror do you read?
  3. Blog about horror fiction or upload a series of posts, each discussing a subgenre.
  4. When the blog post goes live, announce it on Facebook.
  5. If your library is on Twitter, keep readers engaged with a series of tweets highlighting selections from the list throughout the month.
  6. Finally, post the flyer and pictures of your display to your Pinterest board.
