This summer, Garden Home Community Library Association will become the owner and operator of West Slope Library, supporting West Slope’s ongoing service to the community that began in 1950. This project is fittingly called Growing Community. Our library staff and board are excited about this opportunity to maintain both Garden Home and West Slope libraries as vibrant and vital community hubs, working together to serve patrons throughout Garden Home, Raleigh Hills, and West Slope.
Beginning with our April newsletter, we will welcome West Slope’s newsletter subscribers and feature news and events for both Garden Home and West Slope Community Libraries here in one united newsletter.
Would you like to know more about the upcoming transition?
- Visit the Growing Community webpage.
- Watch for regular updates in this newsletter.
- Email project questions to the team at growingcommunity@wccls.org.
- Join Garden Home Community Library Director, Molly Carlisle, and WCCLS Director, Lisa Tattersall, for an informal coffee to chat about the project:

Welcome Kim, New Library Assistant
We have a new staff member! Kim started working at GHCL in January. Originally from Montana, Kim moved to Portland to attend Lewis & Clark College and never left! She worked for a decade in social services before transitioning to libraries. She has been working as a library assistant at Garden Home Community Library since January 2025 and at West Slope Library since May 2023.
Kim enjoys serving the public and connecting people with resources and information. When she is not at the library you can find her discovering new favorite teas, watching movies, reading, playing at the coast, or enjoying spring wildflowers in the gorge.

Seed Swap
Saturday, March 15 1-2:30 pm
Get ready for gardening season by meeting fellow gardeners and get some seeds, seedlings and plants for your garden. Please bring ready-to-grow plants. Avoid wilted, newly dug, bare root, pest-ridden, and dormant bulbs. Depending on the number of participants we may limit the number each attendee can take.
Gardeners of all levels and abilities are welcome. We'll have experienced gardeners here to answer questions.
This program is part of GHCL's Garden Home Green Thumbs, which hosts quarterly events to inspire gardeners. We host an annual spring seed swap and other special events. If you’d like to be on the email list for future events, please contact Heather W.
