One year ago, Garden Home Community Library Association officially assumed responsibility for operating West Slope Community Library.
After nearly two years of planning and preparation, the transition was finally complete. What remained was the challenge of turning a shared vision into reality.
Today, thanks in large part to library supporters like you, both libraries are thriving.
And while each library has its own unique history and character, what unites them is something even more important:
Two Libraries. One Community of Support.
The success of the past year can be seen in growing programs, dedicated volunteers, strong community partnerships, and welcoming spaces that bring people together.
Children discovered the joy of reading through storytimes, summer reading programs, hands-on activities, and opportunities to read with therapy dogs. Adults connected through book groups, technology assistance, creative programs, and community gatherings. This year, our staff presented 447 programs attended by nearly 12,000 people. More importantly, those programs helped neighbors of all ages learn, connect, create, and belong.
Our library volunteers have been equally inspiring. Nearly 70 volunteers will contribute close to 1,800 hours of service this year, supporting programs, outreach, fundraising efforts, and daily library operations. At Garden Home, volunteers returned in force following the relaunch of the volunteer program in January after a long hiatus.
We’ve also strengthened partnerships throughout our community, working with local schools, senior living communities, nonprofits, and businesses to expand access to learning, culture, and service opportunities. Grants supported creative programs such as Take & Make craft kits and Feathered Friends Fun Day, while partnerships like Two-Can Tuesday helped connect our libraries to broader community needs.
As I begin my first year as Board President, I do so with profound gratitude for everyone who helped make this success possible. The future of these libraries was secured not by any one organization or individual, but by a community that chose collaboration, stewardship, and shared purpose.
Now we look ahead.
