Visit the library between June 2 and August 30 to kick off your summer reading fun!*

  • Readers of all ages will receive a free book and a reading log when they sign up.

  • Keep track of your reading starting June 1.

Return your log to Garden Home OR West Slope Community Library by August 30 for exciting prizes.

  • Free all-ages pass to Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) (while supplies last)

  • Free all-ages skate pass and skate rental for Oaks Park Roller Skating Rink (while supplies last)

  • A fancy new bookmark

Each completed reading log counts as an entry into our end-of-summer prize drawing:

  • Reusable tote bag filled with reading-themed goodies, for kids

  • Gift certificate to Annie Bloom’s books, for teens and adults

Winners will be contacted in early September.

*During West Slope Library's temporary closure this summer, WCCLS staff will bring the colorful Wallace outreach van to the West Slope parking lot at the following times for Summer Reading Program signups, crafts, free books, and a surprise storytime or two!

Image with details about West Slope's Temporary Closure from June 13-July 31

As part of the upcoming West Slope-Garden Home transition, there will be a temporary closure of the West Slope Library. The last day that West Slope will be open to the public will be June 12, with a planned re-opening on August 1. There will be some changes for patrons that use West Slope Library during the closure.

Key Points

  • West Slope Library, including the book return, will be closed June 13-July 31.

  • Holds set for West Slope pick up will automatically pause starting June 2 and reactivate on August 1. If a hold is paused, you keep moving up the queue, but it won't be delivered until after the date set.

  • Items checked out from West Slope will have a due date of August 2.

If you would like to have your holds delivered to a different WCCLS library while West Slope is closed, you can log into your account, and go to your holds page. Next, change the pickup location, and finally reactivate the hold by pressing the 'Resume Hold' button. Here is a link to a step-by-step guide for how to change your pickup location.

If you need any assistance, stop by or call either library, or use the contact us form. We would be happy to assist you in changing your holds pickup location.

Frequently Asked Questions

Holds

Q: Why are holds being paused on June 2, if West Slope will be open until June 12?

A: We want to make sure that West Slope patrons have enough time to pick up any holds that arrive before June 12. We want to avoid a situation where you get a notice that your hold is ready to pick up, but have to wait until August to actually get it.

Q: Why can't I select West Slope as the pickup location for my holds?

A: Due to the way the holds system works, we need to temporarily hide West Slope as an option for new holds. West Slope will come back as a pick-up option when the library re-opens in August. Until then, you can choose another pickup location.

Checked Out Items & Returns

Q: What should I do with items that are already checked out?

A: Nothing that was checked out at West Slope will be due during the closure. If you would like to return items before we reopen, you can do so at any other WCCLS library location. That said, you are welcome to keep the items until August. Please enjoy the longer loan, and help us out by babysitting our books!

Q: I have an item that says 'Return to West Slope Only', what should I do with it?

A: Like other items, nothing will be due until August, but if you'd like to return the item, you can bring it to Garden Home Library when the library is open.

Repair Fair

Saturday, June 14

11:30-2:30 pm

Registration required *Scroll down to the blue button that says "Sign Up your item for repair", which is under the list of events

A skilled volunteer will help you figure out what’s broken and possibly fix your broken household items – small appliances, electronics, computers, mobile devices – and more. They may also teach you how to fix your item. Learning how to fix and maintain your items is essential for Repair Fair events. Even if a repair is not possible, fixers can help diagnose an issue or offer advice on repair and maintenance.

Although the repair rate is about 70% at these events, a repair is not guaranteed. The fixer volunteers specialize in various types of repairs and choose items based on their skill set and comfort level with the items. Volunteers may refuse to begin or continue with any repair as needed.
