Welcome, new West Slope Library newsletter readers!
Beginning with this issue, we have merged our subscribers and will feature news and events for both Garden Home and West Slope Community Libraries in one monthly newsletter. If you haven't heard about the upcoming operational transition, you can read all about it on the Growing Community webpage.
As we expand our service area, we would love to add more West Slope and Raleigh Hills neighbors to our Board of Directors. If you are interested, learn more about the Board and apply here.
You can also support our nonprofit libraries by donating here, and by coming out to the Friends of West Slope Library's 25th Annual Tulip Sale at West Slope Libray April 9-12, 10 am - 4 pm. Each bunch of beautiful Wooden Shoe Tulips is only $10 ($9 for 2+), and there will also be a BottleDrop collection on Saturday, April 12, 10 am - 2 pm.
Interested in making the library an even bigger part of your life? We are hiring for multiple positions! Visit gardenhomelibrary.org/employment to learn more and apply.
Please stay tuned to this newsletter for regular updates. While WCCLS is working to minimize service impacts at West Slope Library between now and the temporary closure (June 13-July 31), we encourage you to call or check West Slope's website before visiting. If you have questions about the project, email the team at growingcommunity@wccls.org.
Beware of Smishing Scams
We have heard that people are getting text scams about paying library fines! WCCLS will never text you about owing money. We will only send text notifications for holds notifications, almost overdue, overdue, and registration expiration reminders. The WCCLS Notices phone number is 971-441-2223, and this is the only number we will text you from. We recommend adding this number to your contact list to differentiate the real texts. Contact the library if you have any questions. |

Welcome Kathryn, new West Slope Library Supervisor
Kathryn is thrilled to be joining the Garden Home and West Slope Libraries family. Having recently relocated from Arizona, she is enjoying the rain, trees, and natural beauty of Oregon. In her previous role as the City Librarian for Surprise, Arizona, Kathryn successfully led the transition of library operations from county to municipal management. She brings her expertise to the upcoming West Slope Library transition this summer. Kathryn’s diverse background also includes serving as the Experiential Learning Librarian at Bryan University, where she managed a fully digital library and resource center for an online learning environment. Additionally, as the Library Manager at USMC Camp Schwab in Okinawa, Japan, she collaborated with American civilians and Japanese local nationals to provide library services to U.S. Marines and their families. Outside of work, Kathryn enjoys reading (of course!), community theater, choral singing, and has recently developed an interest in gardening. Check out the list of some of Kathryn's all-time favorite books below.
