Enter the Library’s 12th annual Six Word Story Contest, March 1 through 23, and you could win prizes, fame and glory. You might even win a place in literary history. There’s a literary legend that Ernest Hemingway, while having dinner with fellow writers of the famous Algonquin Round Table in New York City, bet he could write a story in just six words. They bet not. He grabbed a pen and a napkin and wrote: “For Sale: baby shoes, never worn.” They paid up and Hemingway called it his best work. Now it’s your turn!

By Any Other Name
by Jodi Picoult
As an undergraduate, Melina Green had a rare opportunity to have one of her first plays judged by famous theater critic Jasper Tolle, only to be publicly humiliated by a harsh and biased critique. Ten years later, her confidence as a playwright has never recovered, although she has just completed a work that she thinks is her best yet. It is based on the life of her ancestor Emilia Bassano, the rumored "Dark Lady" of Shakespeare's sonnets.
