Keep your eyes on our catalogue and in-branch this month as we add pickleball sets, walking poles, binoculars, and a carbon monoxide monitor to our Library of Things!
And with generous support from the Friends of The Muskoka Lakes Public Library we want to keep it expanding — and we want your input! Help us build a collection that works for you!
Tell us what else you’d like to borrow, and learn more about what a Library of Things is, by taking this quick survey. |

| Mural Painting Progress
Thanks to The District of Muskoka’s IDEA Advisory Group (IAG) and their Muskoka Community Mural Project Initiative, the Norma and Miller Alloway Muskoka Lakes Library (a.k.a. the Port Carling branch) is getting a makeover! Renowned mural artist Jim Bravo is on site now, transforming our walls with three breathtaking murals. Drop by to watch him in action as the library comes to life with colour and creativity.
Check out a quick glimpse below and be sure to check it out in person, or stop by for the reveal (tentatively set for July 25th). Stay tuned! |

by Juano Diaz(Adult non-fiction book)
John Stewart must find his mother. Born into the slums of Glasgow in the late '70s, a 4-year-old John's life is filled with the debris of alcoholism and poverty. He is forcibly taken away from his mother and placed into the care system. There, he dreams of being reunited with her. His mind is consumed with images and memories he can't process or understand, which his eventual adoptive parents silence out of fear as he grows into a young man within a strict Catholic and Romany Gypsy community. This memoir is about how John found his way to his true identity, Juano Diaz, and how, against all odds, his unstoppable love for his mother sets him free. |

by Karin Wells(Adult non-fiction book)
Karin Wells once again pulls us into the lives and--this time, the legal trials--of a group of women integral to the advancement of women's rights in Canada. Eliza Campbell, Chantale Daigle, Jeannette Corbiere Lavell--these Women Who Woke Up the Lawoften had no idea what they were facing in the courts, or the price they would have to pay. Some never saw justice themselves, but they left a legal legacy. Their bold determination is something we need now more than ever to guard the hard-won gains in women's rights. |

by V. E. Schwab(Adult fiction book)
Santo Domingo de la Calzada, 1532. London, 1837. Boston, 2019. Three young women, their bodies planted in the same soil, their stories tangling like roots. One grows high, and one grows deep, and one grows wild. And all of them grow teeth. 'Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil' is a new genre-defying novel about immortality and hunger. |

by Cole Imperi(Juvenile non-fiction book)
Everyone faces loss, and everyone grieves. But grief is as unique as a thumbprint - not everyone grieves the same losses or in the same way. This can feel lonely and isolating, especially when people don't know what to do or say. A Guide to Grief covers everything you need to know about death and loss that no one wants to talk about. This guide has been sensitively reviewed by experts in the field. |

Each month we will include a title or two that a staff member has recently read. Yes, we could call it Staff Picks, but where's the alliterative fun in that?
So, without further ado, please enjoy Maggie's Memorable Mentions! |

by Emilia Hart(Adult fiction book)
Another book I totally judged by its cover, this debut novel was a win for me. Spanning five centuries, it is the story of three women and how they embraced their wilder sides, connecting to the earth’s power and refusing to be restrained by the expectations of society and their husbands. |
