March is that in-between season in Muskoka! Winter is still with us, but Spring is just around the corner. Or maybe that’s just wishful thinking? Either way, there’s no better time to make the most of it! Head outdoors with snowshoes (available in sizes for adults, youth, and toddlers), hiking poles, binoculars, and an Ontario Parks Pass — all part of our growing Library of Things. Or cozy up indoors with a great book, a UV therapy lamp, or your favourite Blu-ray (and even a Blu-ray player)! Feeling adventurous? Plan a road trip to Toronto and take advantage of our Royal Ontario Museum family pass (please note some March blackout dates apply). It’s all available from your Muskoka Lakes Public Library.
We also have exceptional programming planned this month, including plenty happening over March Break (see below)! Whether you’re staying local or visiting, there’s something for everyone!
Also, if you’re visiting, you may notice a few changes taking shape on the upper level in Port Carling as we partner with the West Muskoka Food Bank to pilot a community fridge and pantry — a simple but powerful way neighbours can support neighbours. Stay tuned for more info. And if you or someone you know who is a Township of Muskoka Lakes resident could benefit from our Home Library Delivery Service, please complete the online form or contact staff to learn more.
We hope to see you soon! |

by Allegra Goodman(Adult fiction book)
This is a book about family, and the individuals who make up the Rubenstein clan, regardless of whether they want to be a part of it or not! This clever compilation weaves stories from various family members’ perspectives, using the minutiae of everyday life to illustrate how sometimes the smallest decisions can have the biggest implications. When one sister dies, the other two are bereft, but when one bakes an apple cake, a decade of silence ensues. Each chapter is its own story, told from the point of view of one of the family members, and the author does a wonderful job of bringing their lives into focus, while keeping the tensions and the realities of a big, connected, loving family ever present.
