Happy November! As the days get shorter and the first flurries start to fly, MLPL is a cozy spot to settle in. There’s lots happening this month, from Story Time, LEGO and Crafty Saturdays for the kids, to a Babysitting Course and Movie & Pizza Night, plus yoga, handspinning, greeting card making, Mah Jongg & Euchre, Book Club, and so much more!

A few schedule notes for November: On Tuesday, November 3rd, the Port Carling branch will open at 12:30 PM and the Bala branch will be closed, so staff can take part in planning and training. There will be no Story Time on Wednesday, November 11th, so families can attend Remembrance Day services. On Saturday, November 14th, the Port Carling branch will close at 12 PM so staff can join the Bala Santa Claus Parade at 1 PM.

That’s one of two Township of Muskoka Lakes holiday parades we’ll be walking in this year! You can also catch us at the Port Carling Santa Claus Parade on Saturday, November 28th at 6:30 PM! If you’d like to walk with the MLPL crew, we’d love to have you. Just let us know at either branch.

Our Service and Space Review is moving along! Thank you again to the more than 300 people who shared their thoughts in our survey. We’ve updated our website so you can read more about the survey and follow the review as it continues. Learn more here.

Find us at W.I.S.E. this month! We’ll be in Milford Bay on Wednesday, November 4th, in Raymond on Thursday, November 5th, and in Torrance on Tuesday, November 24th. Stop by our table to say hello and see what the library has to offer.

Both branches are also Muskoka Shoebox drop-off locations all month long. It’s a simple way to bring some holiday cheer to someone in our community.

With so much happening this November, we can’t wait to see you at MLPL!

2026 marks a once-in-a-lifetime milestone: a century of standing with Veterans, strengthening communities, and honouring the memory of those who served.

Founded in 1925 at the Unity Conference, the Legion began with a clear mission â€” to support Veterans, advocate for their rights, and ensure the act of Remembrance continues. On July 17, 1926, the Legion was officially incorporated by a special Act of Parliament, now recognized as their anniversary.

Thanks to Veterans Affairs Canada we have Poppy seed packets available for the taking at our Port Carling branch. The seeds can be planted in your yard or garden to grow into a living tribute. The poppies also make good cut flowers if you singe the cut ends with a flame. This initiative allows individuals to contribute to the remembrance of fallen heroes and supports the Royal Canadian Legion's efforts to provide care and support for Veterans and their families.
