Not On Display

by Zelba

(Adult Graphic Novel)

When one of the greatest museums in the world gave the illustrator Zelba free rein to make a graphic novel about great art, she knew exactly what she would do: address a double standard. She’d seen the Louvre’s halls filled with sexualized female bodies, ogled at by crowds and sometimes even groped, and wanted to turn the tables. What if, she dreamed, those naked bodies refused to be the objects of our gaze? What if the female nudes in the Louvre went on strike?

Don't Let Him In

by Lisa Jewell

(Adult fiction: available in Book, eBook and eAudiobook formats)

In this kaleidoscopic thriller from Lisa Jewell, three women are connected by one man and each will wish they had heeded a warning - don't let him in.

I Am Not Okay

by David DeGrand

(Juvenile graphic novel)

A fluffy woodland creature often sings a song to cheer up his forest friends when they are grumpy, but one day they make him sing the song too much and he's the one who needs help.

We Carry the Sun

by Tae Keller

(Juvenile picture book)

Lyrical and informed, Newbery Medal winner Tae Keller’s debut picture book is also a timely call to action that asks young readers to imagine a brighter, cleaner future. Illuminated by Rachel Wada’s radiant, eye-catching illustrations, We Carry the Sun is a tribute to pioneering thinkers, a celebration of humankind’s relationships with the natural world, and a shimmering ode to the resource that sustains us.

Each month we will include a title or two that a staff member has recently read. Yes, we could call it Staff Picks, but where's the alliterative fun in that?

So, without further ado, please enjoy Kailyn's Keen Keynotes!

Shield of Sparrows

by Devney Perry

(Adult fiction:available in Book, eBook and eAudiobook formats)

A romantasy novel perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Rebecca Yarros. As an avid romantasy reader, I was thrilled by this story! Shield of Sparrows follows Princess Odessa Cross, the black sheep of her family, who is unexpectedly chosen to wed a prince from a distant land. She is tasked with spying on her new husband's mysterious kingdom and reporting its secrets back to her father. However, throughout her journey, Odessa’s understanding of the world expands, and she begins to question her loyalties. Filled with fantastical monsters, an enemies-to-lovers romance, and a cliffhanger ending, Shield of Sparrows is sure to keep you captivated!

No One Was Supposed to Die at This Wedding

by Catherine Mack

(Adult fiction book)

As a sequel to the first book in the series, Every Time I Go on Vacation, Someone Dies, this novel maintains the same quirky and cozy atmosphere. The story follows mystery writer Eleanor Dash, who can’t seem to go on vacation without finding herself at the center of a murder investigation. In this novel, Eleanor attends her best-friends destination wedding which quickly derails with several unexplainable murders. As Eleanor tries to uncover the identity of the killer, she must also navigate the complex and tense relationships among the other wedding guests—many of whom are suspects. Written as a recounting of her own experiences, this book is hilarious, filled with Eleanor’s relatable commentary and witty endnotes.

Final Girls

by Riley Sager

(Adult fiction:available in Book, eBook and eAudiobook formats)

This debut novel by renowned thriller author Riley Sager did not fail to thrill! As a huge fan of Sager, I was excited to read his first thriller. Final Girls follows Quincy Carpenter, the lone survivor of a mass killing several years prior. At the start of the novel, Quincy seems to be coping well—she has limited memories of that night but prefers not to remember more. However, as the story unfolds, repressed emotions and memories begin to surface, forcing Quincy to confront the trauma she has long buried. This novel kept me on the edge of my seat with its focus on the psychological impact of trauma and a twist ending that I did not see coming!
