Spring is the perfect time to reconnect with your library and everything it has to offer. As the days grow longer and signs of the season begin to emerge across the Township, April invites us to explore, create, and connect in new ways—and we’re excited to share a full lineup of opportunities for you to discover below.
In addition to ongoing favourites like our monthly book club and family movie night to weekly storytimes and art programs, this month brings even more to enjoy. You’ll find a variety of special programming, including a celebration of Canadian Film on April 15, a Climate Talk on April 23, and a Free Tax Clinic on April 16.
April showers have you stuck inside? Alongside a great read, we have hundreds of options to keep you entertained—from our vast DVD and Blu-ray collection (we even have a player to borrow!) to a world of audio through our Yoto Players and cards. Whether you're planning a cozy movie night or looking for something new to listen to, your library has you covered. And don’t forget, our online catalogue and eResources are available 24/7 at www.mlpl.ca!
Looking ahead, we’re also excited to introduce two new museum passes to the collection later in May, offering free admission to both the Muskoka Lakes Museum and Muskoka Heritage Place—perfect for your next local adventure! This builds on our existing ROM and Ontario Parks passes, available to borrow today. So whether you’re looking to learn something new, try something creative, or simply enjoy a welcoming space, your library is here for you. Check us out this April—and discover something new along the way.

by Timea Nagy(Adult non-fiction book)
Timea Nagy was twenty years old when she answered a newspaper ad in Budapest, Hungary, calling for young women to work as housekeepers and babysitters in Canada. Interviewed and hired by what seemed like a bona fide recruitment agency, Timea left her home on the promise she would earn good money to send home to her family. She had no idea that she'd been lured by a ring of international human traffickers. This is her captivating, heartbreaking but ultimately redemptive story. Compelling and sweeping, balancing a tragic and unbelievable experience with a powerful story of grace, Timea Nagy's journey is one that will stay with you long after you read the last page.

by Roshani Chokshi(Adult fiction book)
I know you’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but that’s exactly what I did here. This is an adult novel debut by a young adult/children’s author, and the beautiful cover design caught my attention right away. The gothic fairytale aspect was yet another hook that made me take another look and decide to give it a try. Laced with flavours of love, betrayal, magic, and horror, it had elements that appealed to a lot of my reading personalities! The writing is lyrical, and the story casts a spell on you. |
