Ontario Public Library Week — Libraries for Life
Libraries aren’t just for books — they’re for life.
From your very first story time to discovering new hobbies in retirement, your local library is with you every step of the way.
During Ontario Public Library Week (October 19–25), we celebrate the stories, support, and opportunities libraries provide at every stage of life. Whether it’s digital literacy programs, book clubs, computer access, or simply a quiet place to reflect — libraries evolve as we do.
Stop by either branch all week long to enjoy special OPLW activities and discover all the ways your library is there for life!
OPLW Special Event: Pages from the Past, Paths to the Future Thursday, October 23 | 6:00–7:00 PM | Port Carling Branch - Please Register
For over 138 years, some version of what we now know as the Muskoka Lakes Public Library has been more than just a place for books—it has served as a keeper of local memory, a hub of learning, and a reflection of community life.
Join MLPL Chief Librarian Andrew Whitfield for an engaging journey through the early days of libraries and librarianship in Muskoka Lakes, a look ahead at MLPL in the digital age, and a thoughtful discussion on the vital role public libraries continue to play as stewards of history, agents of change, and spaces of belonging.

Do you have an abundance of bulbs? No room to house your excess houseplants this winter? Perhaps you've saved some seeds from your garden, to donate back to our Seed Library? Why not gather any extra plant life you may have hanging around and bring it to exchange (or simply donate) for something new-to-you at our Community Plant Swap? We will have local Green Thumb Gardening Guru Leslie Carr, from Carr Greenhouse, on hand to assist you with any questions and queries you may have.

by Shair Lapena(Adult fiction book)
A Canadian author, Lapena has a knack for the domestic dramas and small-town secrets I find irresistible in a suspense novel. This is her newest book, and it was very hard for me to put down. Told from multiple perspectives, there is no shortage of suspects. I had my eye on three individuals but totally missed the true villain! The reveal at the end caught me. Perhaps you would be better at guessing whodunnit?
