2020 Springfield Preservation Trust Awards The Springfield Preservation Trust's Preservation Awards honor the people and organizations that are helping to restore historic structures in Springfield. Every year the Trust showcases exemplary properties that represent the best preservation in Springfield over the previous year. This year, the Springfield City Library was recognized for the restoration of the front stairs and decorative cornice of the Springfield Central Library at 220 State Street. Completed in 1912, the Classical Revival-style Central Library has been a distinctive landmark on State Street for more than a century. It has recently undergone a major renovation to preserve and restore the exterior, including replacing the antefixes at the edges of the eaves and rebuilding the stairway at the main entrance.
