Featured Event - Plant Swap at Forest Park Branch
Forest Park Library Plant Swap, May 5-8
Visit Forest Park Branch May 5-7 and drop off plants you want to swap (labeled if possible) in exchange for a ticket to the Plant Swap on Saturday May 8th from 11am - 2pm. Swap out a different plant for each one you brought in, and consult with a local Master Gardener if you have questions. Your ticket will get you entered in a raffle to win plants and gardening items! For more information call (413) 263-6843 or see our website. All participants get a free flower starter and take-home craft kit. Co-sponsored by the Springfield Garden Club.
Please note: This is an outdoor-only event. For your safety, please wear a mask and maintain social distance – our staff and volunteers will be doing the same! The building will be closed, and no restrooms will be available.

Tulsa Race Massacre 100th anniversary - This year is the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre, when May 31 to June 1, 1921, a White mob numbering in the thousands obliterated the Greenwood District, a prosperous Black community in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Thirty-five city blocks were destroyed, while as many as 300 Black people were killed, and nearly 10,000 were left homeless. Librarian Lisa has prepared a curated list of books and online resources to learn more.

Disaster Preparedness - Hurricane Preparedness Week is May 9-15, 2021. Here's a list of books to help you prepare for all kinds of disasters - being ready is so important for those events we can't control.

World Bee Day - May 20 is World Bee Day. Bees are an integral part of our ecosystem, which greatly enhance our food security and nutrition. We can help by purchasing bee products, supporting their habitat in our own yards, and be conscious of bee-harming pesticides. Let’s Bee mindful!
