The University of North Georgia (UNG) will collaborate with local libraries, youth organizations, nonprofit groups, and businesses to promote a love of reading in our community with the launch of UNG Reads from September 30 through November 4, 2017. 2017 Book Selection This year’s book selection is Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya. The book is set in rural New Mexico in the 1940s and tells the story of a Mexican-American boy, Anthony, who learns to navigate the changing American landscape during World War II. He gets help from Ultima, a curandera (female faith healer) who guides him through the cultural, religious, and moral conflicts he faces in his community. Library Events & Programs Forsyth County Public Library will host three book club discussions and a screening of the film adaptation of the novel. Patrons are also invited to share a bit of their own wisdom or words of encouragement on Tree of Wisdom displays at the Cumming, Hampton Park, and Post Road Libraries during the month of October.
